Wake County NC school bus drivers go on strike

Going on strike is also perfectly legal.

Either way the school will pay more for drivers.

Drivers are in short supply, if the district refuses to pay the drivers they have more. They will have to pay more to hire new ones.

Market economics.
the trucking industry is dealing with the same shortage of drivers

besides those prospects having better options, records of being convicted of being under the influence erase that group from consideration
on top of that, school bus drivers must pass a screen that shows them to be able to be around children. at one time i would have thought that to be something which would exclude very few. since that screen was recently imposed on those of us who officiate youth sports, the number who are screened out is unexpectedly high (to me). the point being, it is more difficult to find school bus drivers than truck drivers

when you are hired, you are given the amount of routes that you will do....I know this very well, because I have a bus driver in my family and I actually went to the classes as well, but decided it wasn't for me...because it doesn't pay well.....that was before we opened our contracting business.
Not doubting your own experience, but different areas do things differently. Also being told you will have a certain route at certain hours, would almost certainly be subject to change. In my particular area, buses have aids that ride along, assisting the driver with managing the kids. These are usually seniors and they are paid just above minimum wage.

If what you say is true, the driver's have a big law suit. If they are working 8 or 9 hours they should certainly be paid for their time at their agreed to rate (unless over 40 hours and in some cases over 8 hour days which would be OT) My only reference is the article posted and I didn't see any where in it that they were being asked to work off the clock.
nope, because they are considered pre salaried for that slot...on other words they are paid a salary of 3 hours in the morning, 3 in the evening and if they don't complete it is too bad....bus drivers have different requirements from regular hourly employees, because their pay is figured on slots, not hours.

Drivers who used to do two schools a day are now handling five or more schools. It’s so busy that some drivers say they have to skip bathroom breaks to stay on schedule.

So, they are being required to skip their breaks just to stay on schedule, if they get off schedule they can be written up....even with an increased route load. Going from 2 schools a day to 5 schools a day, is a significant change.

most truckers don't just get 16 an hour....I would rather drive a truck with a load that doesn't have a smart mouth any day of the week.

So are they hourly or salary? I'm confused.

You are ignoring the most difficult part of their job. Dishonestly.
Their job is not remotely difficult. Try sit in a seat driving around making frequent stops.

Fallacy of omission - giving only evidence that supports your argument while ignoring or disregarding contrary evidence.

I’ll ask again. Where is this agreement on routes?

and making sure your students don't kill each other, do other illegal things, that all children are staying in their seat, that there is no bullying going on, etc, etc.
Which consists of sitting in a seat, driving around making frequent stops.

There is no contrary evidence. They sit in a seat, drive around and make frequent stops. This is objective fact.

They do not make $17k a year, mathematically. What part has you confused?
show us the math to expose how much they do earn annually

i am so looking forward to your embarrassing yourself and your math "skills"

It's not a concession. It's "I'm done wasting my time with lies".
You can not refute the facts so you are running away. I accept your concession

Still not conceeding. Now you're sea lioning. Drivers are responsible for the supervision and safety of large groups of children. Is that a fact or not?

So are they hourly or salary? I'm confused.
they are paid in 3 hour blocks....it is a semi hourly/semi salary type pay. If the rate figures out to 16 an hour they would be paid $48 for each 3 hour block they do...it wouldn't matter if they take 4 hours to do it...but going over on your 3 hour block also can get you fired.
