Police officers in San Francisco may no longer demand that suspects – whether handcuffed or not – sit on the ground or sidewalk at a crime scene, the city’s police chief writes in a department memo.
The practice is viewed as “demeaning” to suspects, city police Chief William Scott has determined.

Making handcuffed suspects sit on the ground is for their own safety. Even wearing handcuffs, a person can still run, and if that happens police will have to use more force, like tackling him to the ground or possibly tasing him. If he's sitting on the ground it'll take him a moment to get up, and the police can restrain him right there. But this genius police chief thinks that respecting suspects is more important than protecting them, and protecting the public.
Oh crap, right-wing circle jerk, later..
Funny that this is your take and have absolutely nothing to say about what the thread is about. Why even post at all?

Absolutely. Not to mention that we naturally use our arms to help with balance, without thinking about it. A person who is intoxicated, impaired, in poor health, etc. can loose their balance.
And I don't see how standing in handcuffs is less demeaning than sitting in handcuffs. It would make a lot more sense to say that a handcuffed person should be secured in a vehicle as soon as possible after being handcuffed.
Why is Fox News still considered mainstream news? They've admitted they're not a news organization and at this point they're just a propaganda outlet for Trump.
Of COURSE this story was written by them.

You beat me to it.....Well, forcing someone to sit in someone else's pee and poop can be demeaning, you know.
Interestingly enough...I hadn't heard the "war on Christmas" phrase but a few times this year. Yours being maybe the 3rd time or so? And every time it was by a liberal.
Doesn't this directive just tell officers to put the suspect in the back of a car instead of on the ground?

FAKE NEWS
The police chief said nothing about it being demeaning, nor does it say that cops cannot make suspects sit on the ground or sidewalk
In fact, it says they can
