He might actually suggest expanding the probe. He may suggest that Mueller look more deeply into what the Clinton campaign was doing hiring a foreigner to do research. He may further question Steele as to weather he worked with the Russians to stir distrust in the newly elected administration.

If that fantasy helps you sleep at night, I'm good with it. The IMO remote prospect won't bother me at all even if it comes to pass. I don't know all that much about Mueller but he seems to be a good prosecutor, his team is by all accounts I've seen competent and professional, and I've been impressed so far with what he's done and not done, the latter being keeping a very tight lid on leaks. We know what he's doing pretty much only through official filings, the indictments, etc. and almost nothing from leaks from Mueller. That's excellent IMO and reflects quite a bit on the quality of his team.

So if he finds out Steele is dirty, he should pursue it. Hillary isn't in his mandate, but if she comes under it somehow, fine - investigate the hell out of her. I'm good with it, because I trust he won't be engaging in a 'witch hunt.' I'm positive he's not in this case so far - the indictments are evidence enough of that.

I was just listening to Dan Bongino on the Tucker Carlson show and he mentioned "Canary Trap". That's an interesting thought.

A Canary Trap is when specific information is given to a small set of people but there are minor differences in what each person gets. If one of the people leaks that information it can be determined who leaked by that minor difference unique to the packet they got. Perhaps this is a case where Mueller had someone attached to his team that was getting a little froggy and he was encouraging them to jump.

Um, that really makes no sense, because everyone on the inside would be in position to know what's BS.

More likely is that a private third party that has been involved in the investigation, misinterpreted material they saw, then leaked their misconceptions Buzzfeed, and Buzzfeed labeled them "law enforcement".

Just FWIW, everyone I've seen who has any actual expertise in an investigation of this incredibly broad scope disagrees with your view here. I know you don't care, but you'll understand why others might put more stock into the views of people informed and experienced in investigating then making charges on complex matters than those who....aren't.

I'm sure it is coming, and I doubt if Mueller has a problem briefing his old colleague. What's a mystery is why you think that's something liberals should worry about.

It might be hard to get your hands around, but a lot of us ACTUALLY DO TRUST MUELLER to do a fair job, and if we do, we do not and should not fear legitimate oversight of his work by a competent and non-corrupt AG. And unless Barr has been committing perjury while testifying to Congress, he'll do a fair job of legitimate oversight. That's all good and I welcome it. It does the process a favor, the country a service, to have someone legitimately and competently overseeing this critical investigation and its aftermath.

The only fear I have is an unqualified hack like the current acting AG sitting in the oversight chair. Incompetent people are always dangerous to any serious undertaking like this. I doubt if I agree with Barr politically, but he's got a long and distinguished career at very high levels that speaks to his overall competence and professionalism. Yes, everyone inside would know what's BS. That's why the "minor differences" are so minor. For example, one set of information might have a typo and another might have different punctuation. One set of information might say "xyz told subject 1 to lie" while another set might say "xyz suggested that subject 1 lie". A casual comparison, if one is actually made, probably wouldn't pick up the difference but if the document or a recitation of the discussion is leaked that difference will be known to whoever is running the trap.

As I said in another post - GREAT! And I mean it.

The only reason I would fear that is I though Barr was corrupt, and was hired after promising to be Trump's hatchet man. That's not been my impression from what little I've read and know about him. Hope not...

One other point. Bottom line is we've seen special prosecutors get way off the reservation, and that's a real danger, and it's a bad thing for the country. So I HOPE Barr will do his job and keep this thing between the lines and on point, because it will help legitimize the outcome, whatever that turns out to be. And now Trump has or will have HIS guy in charge. All good from where I sit, assuming Barr isn't a liar and a corrupt POS, which I do.

I'm not doubtful of the story because of the SC's denial.

Let's be real, all of these agencies leak like crazy, and always have going back to the 70's. Even the most seemingly straight law enforcement do this ****. They gossip no different than the rest of society does.

So, when they deny that they leaked a story people really shouldn't be surprised. What do we think they'll do when they're confronted, admit it? :doh No, they'll deny until the final hour, like an athlete denying strong rumors up and down, until they're wearing their new teams jersey.

What makes this story doubtful is Cohen's guilty plea not alluding to this episode.
