Only about 10% of (personal) federal income tax (FIT) payers elect to itemize deductions, since that requires waving the standard deduction. The idea that how and/or upon who one’s annual income was later spent should change the amount of FIT due makes no sense. IMHO, the best FIT reform would be to raise the standard deduction (thus taxing only ‘excess’ annual income) and eliminate all itemized deductions.

An itemized deduction amount of $10K (over the standard deduction) gets someone with (enough) income in the 25% tax bracket rate a $2.5K federal subsidy, while it gets someone with (enough) income in the 35% tax bracket rate a (40%) larger $3.5K federal subsidy. It makes no sense to give the higher income taxpayer a larger federal subsidy for the same amount of itemized deductions.

In any case, what you are talking about is a list of options that Congress has put together. We've heard about this list numerous times in the last month and I keep saying the same thing: It is a list of options and there is no indications that any of those options will make it into any laws.

IS IT POSSIBLE that Trump is threatening tariffs on Canada for bullshit reasons like fentanyl because he knows that Canada will retaliate by cutting off all oil and energy to the US, thus giving Trump an excuse to say Canada is committing an act of war, similar to what the Japanese said when Roosevelt cut off oil to Japan prior to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor? By accusing Canada of committing an act of war on the US Trump could then invent an excuse for invading Canada which he could very easily sell to the brainless American people, super-bullshitter that Trump is. Conditions for cessation of hostilities would be Canada agreeing to be annexed as the 51st state.
