An assault rifle and high capacity magazines. Weapon and ammo meant for one primary purpose—to kill lots of human beings in a very quick and efficient manner. Gee, where have we heard this story before.

Just a responsible gun owner that suddenly turned bad...

No surprise. High-capacity magazines directly undermine the "good guy with a gun" response to mass shootings. At best more innocents will get shot before there's an opportunity to break cover and shoot the bad guy down. At worst, the good guy gets shot too.

Yes some states do ban high-capacity magazines. But only 10 of them, obviously not including Texas.

"High capacity magazines" are plastic boxes with a spring inside. Are you going to just ban them, or also ban 3D printers?

Yes, ban possession of them. Obviously sale of them, but less obviously supply of them as "gifts" from people who have 3D printers.

It would have a positive effect because malicious people who are contemplating a mass shooting will likely not take the risk of trying to buy illegal magazines: they could be buying from a cop. As to 3D printers, they're expensive and we can count on at least some owners to raise a red flag if their friend asks them to print an illegal magazine.

Imagine you're an armed teacher (Texas has them, though not in this little school.) You're in the hallway outside a room where shots are being fired. After ten shots there's a pause, this is the best moment for you to enter, because (3D printers or not) the perpetrator is probably using a standard magazine.

It would help if the states which have banned high capacity magazines had all fixed on the same number of cartridges. Whether that's ten or 12 matters less than it being standardized.

Not for a bunch of elementary kids in Texas today
I would wager the police ended the carnage with a weapon like in the pic.

Couldn’t take him out when they initially engaged him though could they? Good old body armour like in the Buffalo shooting 🇺🇸

Good argument for arming our LEO with armor piercing rounds.

What’s a high capacity magazine?
It's become very clear that the same ole responses are starting to emerge from the right. Including stupid sarcastic ones. The bottom line is, it's time Americans realize that it's the right wing and the right wing only who refuse to act. Democrats have passed any number of gun control measures only to have them killed by the republican side of the senate.

This needs to be the number one issue come November. All republican lawmakers who refuse to act have lots of blood on their hands. It has become perfectly clear that to republicans, guns are more important than children's lives.

Shame on all of you. America is sick because of you.

These are the republican senators who put gun money above human lives. Never forget this list and take it with you to the polls this November.

No, please. Voters have heard it before and voters know that it won't happen. Maybe your state government is different.

Are you saying that we should not try and do anything? That's what it sounds like. Republicans have been one issue voting for years trying to get Roe overturned. It seems to have worked. Why not we one issue vote on guns. Something has to change and doing nothing is only making it worse.

Yes. Much harder to get the majority of the vote on assault weapons, than on abortion. There's a lot of ill-will to overcome on inflation, too.

Yes. Republican hand-picked justices are going to overthrow RvW and Democrats should hammer that, because popular opinion is on their side.

The problem with gun control is it cuts across party lines in a way that abortion does not.

Or not letting civilians buy tactical gear like in most countries.
'Not letting"? And I don't care about other countries. America first.

yea, that'll scare them. Not the decades of prison time for actually murdering someone, but the misdemeanor offense of possessing a "banned" hi cap magazine. That's what will deter someone.

You aren't familiar with firearms, or reloading times I see.
