Just a small part, hopefully the whole thing will be available soon.

I hope a lot of people saw it, it was VERY good. I watched on both Fox and CNN The president delivered a superb speech, it was very very good. Was very respectful and inspiring, hugely inspiring.

If there is one thing Obama is exceptional at, it's inspiring. (Yes, I complimented Obama.... but hold on a second... I feel a diss coming on)

wait for it.....

wait for it.....

Here it comes...

Too bad he can't be exceptional at governing too. (there it is).

I loved Obama's speech, it was on par with any speech I've heard in my lifetime, and it really reminded me of how I felt after 9/11. When he started talking about Green jumping in Heaven's puddles...

The other speech I really liked was Daniel Hernandez's, he was really speaking from his heart. He was downright humble, and when he was giving the credit to the first responders, I was proud to be an American.

It was a dog-n-pony show.

I would agree with your evaluation of the event. Very thoughtful speech by our President and all who spoke did a fine job. To call such a somber event a "dog n pony show" is extremely sad and evidence of a mind closed to reason.

I think if he doesn't change his ways, people will see his speech as history has shown his speeches to be, empty words.

I didn't see him using this to push a political agenda, which was refreshing.

The only people that it really matters to is the families of the victims. If they liked it, then that's great. Our views on it are really irrelevant.

President Obama whether he likes it or not must always speak to a wider audience than that and I think he did.

it WAS very good. it's also interesting to be able to identify the ignorant, partisan hacks on this forum, who continue to use this tragedy as a platform for their hate of the president.

A few nitpicks on focus, message where his obvious progressive liberal mindset and my conservative views differ, but that's to be expected. He gave a good speech that I enjoyed. It was the rest of the memorial service that came prior to his that buggered me more. The crowd was WAY out of line for a memorial, the cheered like it was a pep rally, and that opening speaker, wtf was that ****?

I agree, I found all the cheering, even the applause distracting; I would have been more comfortable with a solemn church service than what this was, an event in a sports arena in front of a crowd substantially composed of college students. I feared that it would turn into something like Paul Wellstone's memorial service which was raucous and partisan. But, you know, this University of Arizona audience cheered for Governor Jan Brewer and for President Barack Obama. Best of all, the speakers were all respectful of one another and non-partisan in their remarks. It all turned out okay.

Aside the opening speaker, which I just found awkward as ****, the speakers were good. The crowd didn't treat the event with appropriate decorum. Which was a shame.

The speech that the President gave was probably one of the best, if not the best, speeches he has given. The first speaker was a little weird and I was disappointed that the University President nor the Class President gave a gesture for people to calm down. Overall though, I feel it went well.

I can see how the tone of the crowd might irk some of you.

Certainly I have heard there was some jeering at some of the speakers "Get on with it..." and so on. That's not acceptable.

However, it's a small community, and in the context of my life, I see it as a positive. In many of the African cultures, it is practice, to sing and dance and celebrate that persons life.

One cannot decide how a memorial should be conducted. Often within indviduals there are many conflicting emotions at that time. Sometimes you want to laugh during a funeral because someone reminds you of a funny thing the deceased did... sometimes you wanna cry. It's all relative.

I do not think the crowd acted in any way inappropriately. I have been to many funerals where it turns into a happy celebration of life and that bothers some folks. I suspect many of the folks at this event also looked at it as having multiple purposes, one of which was to rally the community.

Perhaps. I just think a memorial requires a certain decorum.

Obama is a GOOD public speaker.
