Trump to deploy National Guard in response to Los Angeles immigration protests

Nothing will happen because this is what the American public wants.

Americans have always pined for a fascist government led by a strong, uncompromising leader, and now we're on the cusp of finally seeing our dreams come true.

MAGA.

The Los Angeles Metro Area is GIGANTIC.
The area (circled in RED) is where there were protests that necessitated 102 arrests, less than the number of arrests at a Real Housewives party that turned bad, is about eight square blocks, and LAPD handled it professionally.

If only all the news was reported this way:

Murder in Queens, but in Brooklyn, life goes on. Hurricanes in Florida, but that’s just a small slice of the United States.
There was a riot at the Capitol, but the weather was nice in Hawaii.

I don't see many requests for the services of the IRS either.

Lol, can you just see the IRS showing up in corporate board rooms and dragging off rich people who haven't paid their taxes? 😀

That would be a really public service.

Dragging away America's workers is not.

Depends on the focus of the story. A story about 1000s of people protesting ICE isn't told when it focuses on a couple of people committing violence.

Folks are certainly free to focus on the violence, but its dishonest to suggest that it represents the protest.

I'm simply pointing out that a hundred arrests is not
"L.A. is ON FIRE and burning TO THE GROUND!!!!1!!!!111! TEH RADICAL LEFTISTS!!!!!11!!!"

I really miss my son and times like these makes me remember what a comedian he was.
He would be describing a person getting hysterical and he would make a silly noise that
SOUNDED like that GIF above LOOKS.

It was hilarious to hear him do it.
I wish I had recorded him doing it.

The president is acting well within his constitutional, and statutory, authority

10 U.S.C.
United States Code, 2011 Edition
Title 10 - ARMED FORCES
Subtitle E - Reserve Components
PART II - PERSONNEL GENERALLY
CHAPTER 1211 - NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS IN FEDERAL SERVICE
Sec. 12406 - National Guard in Federal service: call
From the U.S. Government Publishing Office, www.gpo.gov

§12406. National Guard in Federal service: call

Whenever—

(1) the United States, or any of the Commonwealths or possessions, is invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation;

(2) there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or

(3) the President is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States;

the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary
to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion, or execute those laws. Orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States or, in the case of the District of Columbia, through the commanding general of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.

The rule of law is based on logic. The logic of the law can sometimes be very simple. The law lets the President use the Guard only when the nation faces a real invasion or rebellion. If no invasion or rebellion exists, the statute does not apply. Words like "rebellion" have plain meanings. Calling an angry protest a rebellion changes that meaning. That change would give the President power with no limits. Our system does not allow that. Judges can compare the President's claim to the facts they can see. If the facts do not fit, the order breaks the law. An order that breaks the law cannot stand.

Put another way, just because Trump supporters tend to be racist, belligerent assholes, who hate immigrants from Central and South America, that does not entitle them to treat the problem of illegal immigration as if it were a war or an invasion (as in the case of Trump's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act), or a rebellion (the present case).

Isn't Los Angeles a sanctuary city?

The phrase "sanctuary city"” is a political slogan with no definition in federal law. Federal agents are always free to enforce immigration law in every city. Calling any city a sanctuary city is pure propaganda.

Cities often decline ICE requests that lack a judicial warrant because holding someone without probable cause violates the Fourth Amendment.

Good local policing is based on trust. When local officers act as de facto ICE agents, immigrant victims and immigrant witnesses stop talking to police officers. This create a law enforcement environment where real criminals are less likely to be caught.

We have lots of studies showing that these sensible policies result in lower overall crime and higher crime-reporting. If foam-at-the-mouth, anti-immigrant Trump supporters were really in favor of so-called "tough-on-crime" policies they wouldn't disparage cities for having sensible, research-based policies.

Nothing funnier than MAGA maggots preaching Law and Order.

:ROFLMAO:

You 'people' are still banging the tiny little drum that your rat politicians gave you.......scumbag partisan DA panders to scumbag partisan voters by holding a fraudulent circus trial judged by scumbag partisan judges.........

He got elected because more eligible voters didn't cast a ballot than those who voted for either Trump or Harris.

No rational human being needs a politician to know Don the Con is a racist pathological liar willing to sacrifice the Constitution in order to maintain his latest POTUS grift.

I was watching Bret's show earlier (Jacqui Heinrich subbing today). She had Brit Hume on to discuss his views about the LA situation. He said the following toward the end of their discussion. I so agree with him.

"I've seen some things in my life that I thought were politically unsustainable. I think what Democrats are doing and saying about all this is politically insane."

Also, he said:

"This is playing out, unmistakenly, before a national audience. I think it's to the detriment of the Democrats and to the Republicans and to the president, it's like picking up money off the street."

If ICE wants to arrest undocumented immigrants, they could simply grab the folks who come clean the rooms at the hotel they're staying at.

Accomplices in their own demise.

I’m not interested in excuses. Bottom line is the LAPD has no control over this situation and the rioters are continuing to brutalize their fellow citizens and indiscriminately destroy property. So their leadership is out and the NG will be calling the shots.
Brutalize: to attack someone in a savage and violent way.

You keep using that word over and over again. Multiple posts now. Do you have specific examples in mind when you use that word? How many citizens have been "brutalized" by their fellow citizens in the riots? You seem to like posting about vandalism and property damage, but obviously that is in an entirely different league from actual people being brutalized.

He got arrested because the majority of voters didn't fall for the corrupt rat shit you eagerly swallow. You shit on your own integrity AND you lost.

Or we could call it what it is: a lie.

This is nothing more than political theater on Trump's part. He is deliberately exacerbating the situation so he can send in troops to control it. The riots must be contained and those guilty of any violence apprehended but there is nothing to suggest the LAPD can't do that. These guys know how to do riots!!! How this ends up will dictate the political winner. My bet is the American people will not accept the needless deployment of armed military on their streets and will see Trump's actions for what they are. The military parade this week may just reinforce that worry.

The role of the NG here is to protect federal property here.

The only people who will see this as "exacerbating" the situation, were those people who wanted to sack those buildings anyhow.

Their "role" isn't the problem. It was done without consultation with the Governor and without coordination with LAPD.

Be careful, your racial bigotry is showing.

The key word is FEDERAL property. The federal government does not need local permission to protect its own property.

There is no statutory requirement for the president to consult with the governor on this.
Moreover, it's not the responsibility of local law enforcement to protect federal property. It's the responsibility of the federal government to do so.
Which is what Trump has done.
