Trump to deploy National Guard in response to Los Angeles immigration protests

The key word is FEDERAL property. The federal government does not need local permission to protect its own property.
Not the point. As usual with Trump it is not what he does it's how does it. It should have been in consultation with the Governor. The deployment of arnmed Marines in American streets is even more egregious. Where is General Honore when you need him.

There is no statutory requirement for the president to consult with the governor on this.
Moreover, it's not the responsibility of local law enforcement to protect federal property. It's the responsibility of the federal government to do so.
Which is what Trump has done.
See my post a above. He should have consulted the Governor whether it is statutory requirement or not. More importantly there should have been coordination with the LAPD.

So now you are just making up shit. There is no need for consultation.

There most certainly is. Federalizing a State National Guard is a significant step which requires consultation with the States Governor in a democracy....oh right, democracy is such an old fashioned concept.

It seems there was a consultation (conversation) as the two spoke prior to the deployment. A "consultation" does not mean there has to be an agreement on how to move forward.

Obviously they did not agree and Newsome claims Trump did not bring this up.

But I agree with you that WHAT was done, was legal. HOW is subjective.

"
June 9 (Reuters) - Soon after scattered protests broke out in Los Angeles on Friday in the wake of federal immigration raids, President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom spoke by phone. Trump never mentioned any federal response, according to Newsom, who described the conversation as "very cordial" on MSNBC on Sunday.

Twenty-four hours later, Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops to the state, bypassing Newsom and igniting another firestorm over his aggressive efforts to deport migrants living in the U.S. illegally."

It actually doesn't. It simply is a directive to the governor.
Thats the law.

The idea is that the president has the constitutional power to ensure the laws are enforced-- and that a governor cannot be in the position of thwarting that power.

So-- people are rioting because of hurt feelings?? I mean-- the NG is guarding federal buildings.
Stones are being thrown because of that?
Sorry to put it this way-- but I think that we need to grow up a little here.

It’s unacceptable that the local police need the rioters to victimize more innocent people before they commit 100% to stamping this thing out. We don’t need a laundry list of could haves from the Chief. They didn’t. Bottom line.
Unacceptable to whom? Certainly not Midwesterners. They have no power over the people of California. The local police don't care what outsiders think. The communities can handle themselves.

We don’t? Even Californians have to eat. 😉

How this ends up will dictate the political winner. My bet is the American people will not accept the needless deployment of armed military on their streets and will see Trump's actions for what they are. The military parade this week may just reinforce that worry.
Well, I guess we'll find out if your bet is a good bet as far as a "political winner". Also, I'll be interested to see how long you hold onto or double down on your bet. Certainly, there are others, in addition to Brit Hume, who are seeing it quite differently than your bet.

think of all of this as 'Day One' this is just the start of the 'summer of chaos 2025'

Dark Maga is flexing it's muscles, kind of the Orange monarchs style. The term Dark MAGA comes from a theory known as ‘dark enlightenment’.

Those polls were taken before all this and are totally irrelevant to my thinking or or my post. To suggest that those polls are in line with Hume's thinking on something that hadn't even happened is , yet again, disingenuous on your part.

BTW Hume said it was to the detriment of all three. Dems Republicans AND Trump.

" I think it's to the detriment of the Democrats and to the Republicans and to the president,"

Thank you very much. I'm not the least bit surprised that this supports my thinking. As with so many other things it's not what Trump wants to do that is wrong , it is how he goes about it. Deportations are not the issue , most are OK with that, however , as I said in an earlier post, the American people will not accept the needless deployment of armed military on their streets against the wishes of the Governor and local officials ......as the pertinent polling shows.

I’m not thrilled at the prospect of testing these guardrails to see how well they hold.

Personally.

I do believe you are correct and I do not think the majority of military leadership or even military service members would back such actions by this administration.

But I don’t like the prospect of finding out
It doesn't take that many bad actors in positions of power to be a real and long-term problem.

The gross incompetence (emphasis on both gross and incompetence) of the Trump regime demonstrated in pictures:
https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/national-guard-california-photos-20368334.php

‘Wildly underprepared’: National Guard troops seen sleeping on floors in exclusive photos (SF Chronicle)

"Senior military leaders advised Monday that the California troops could continue sleeping on floors or outdoors until Thursday, at which point federal officials would decide whether to make more permanent lodging plans, the source said. By Monday afternoon, additional National Guard troops were expected to reach Los Angeles, upping the total from around 300 late Saturday to more than 2,100.

It was unclear where the new arrivals would stay at night, the source said, with only a few hundred available tents.

“Currently, there is no plan for where everyone is sleeping tonight,” the source said, adding that there was an urgent need to find more portable bathrooms and dumpsters for garbage.

The Pentagon referred questions about troop provisions to the California Guard, which in turn referred questions to the U.S. Special Operations Command North, which did not immediately respond to the Chronicle.
____
The troops — whose makeshift quarters are shown in photographs exclusively obtained by the Chronicle — arrived without federal funding for basic necessities, said the source, who was granted confidentiality under Chronicle policies. This person said state officials and the California National Guard were not to blame.

“This is what happens when the president and (Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth) demand the National Guard state assets deploy immediately with no plan in place … (and) no federal funding available for food, water, fuel and lodging,” the source said. “This is really the failure of the federal government. If you’re going to federalize these troops, then take care of them.”
____

This is basic stuff: Food, shelter, logistics, instructions, a plan.

Remember, @SuperDS77 will flip flop on all of these positions when a Democrats is in the White House.
