Trump says changes are coming to ICE raid policy: 'We must protect our farmers

Trump is caving....again?

Why the hell does this nincompoop-in-chief not know basics re issues before he acts on them?
Trump is a moron #1 and also these ICE raids are for political purposes and have nothing to do with illegals. He is trying to cause disturbances that will allow him to declare martial law. Never forget that everything is always about him. As his approval declines he will continually keep trying harder and harder to make himself untouchable and being the arsonist that puts out his own fires is how he thinks he will get it.

It's all about increasing his wealth and power.

TACO is Taco'ing again!!!

\And now he's back tracking AGAIN!

So now he's not going after farm workers??? What's the matter, Taco?

FRESNO, Calif. -- President Donald Trump is reversing course on his immigration raid policy when it comes to farm workers, he announced on Truth Social.

"Our great farmers and people in the hotel and leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long-time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace," Trump wrote. "...We must protect our farmers, but get criminals out of the U.S.A. Changes are coming!"

According to the U.S. Agriculture Department, 42% of crop farmworkers from 2020 to 2022 lacked legal status.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the change is happening because Californians spoke up. "Keep it going. Keep it peaceful. It's working," he wrote on X.

In a post on social media, Newsom shared a story about a 12-year-old boy he met in Oxnard, California whose parents had been taken by agents. They had been working the fields for over 20 years.

"Donald Trump may not care about him, but he's finally listening to you calling out these indiscriminate acts of cruelty," Newsom said. "Let's keep up the pressure, and let's do it peacefully."

🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮

Nuanced policy due to supply of critical labor, (farm workers are critical, if underpaid) I especially like seeing Trump amend his
previous policy to protect farm workers

And even after being president once already and creating immigration policy...TACO didnt know this before his recent derogatory rants?
Wow, MAGA must be getting whiplash with the need (requirement for the dutiful) to rationalize all the reversals.

I think he's spinning out of control to support Trump.
With all this bending over backwards to defend Trump, chiropractors are gonna have lots of new MAGA patients.

LOL I just posted that they're getting whiplash :D

Trump is all about cruelty and propaganda as long as it not interfere with the main goal of enriching himself and his cronies.

That Trump have for example spread racist lies about immigrants. Sent innocent people to horrific prison in El Salvador, including those who legally entered the US. Detained an academic for writing an OP ED. While revoking the legal status for hundreds of thousands.

While now he suddenly support businesses that have hired undocumented immigrants because it benefit his donors.

He wants to look like a strong man. Like his idol, Putin. He's feelin' it after Putin treating him like a lapdog over Ukraine.

To be honest, his flipflops show me this: he is a very unexperienced apprentice with bad intention and way too big ego who is learning governing. All the things wich everybody told him woun´t work, he has to experience himself. That he doesn´t care about truth or what he told yesterday works good for him in that aspect. System try and error. If he just would be evil... but evil and incompetent?!? - good luck America, you´ll need it!

It’s almost like he suddenly realized that when he said he’d deport 15 million immigrants it would affect businesses that employ those people.

Or maybe those immigrants really aren’t murders and rapists, like he told us?

Yeah, let’s go with amend.

Really? They distinguish among places where those without documents work? I remember hearing stories about the old INS delaying raids on agricultural fields until the harvest came in, but never really believed it.

I doubt it, I wrote that wondering how would they enforce the policy if farm and hospitality workers are exempt and millions of others aren't.

They've already raided California farms, and word has gotten out. I'm guessing a fair number of farmhands have just decided to head north to Canada. Good luck finding Fox News-binging white folk from Simi Valley willing to do that kind of work.

To a lot of small business owners, migrants are critical workers to their livelihoods. It's not just farming. A lot of small businesses in urban areas use migrant workers, and that includes people without status. Around here, there is zero chance lawn and landscape businesses could survive without immigrant labor. Across the river in DC, a lot of popular restaurants depend on immigrant labor.

The other Republican business owners (who are not farmers) should figure out some creative way to sue Trump or the Trump Administration or a specific person in the Trump Administration (or maybe even farmers) for the damages/bankruptcies that THEY will incur that Trump is protecting the other businesses (farmers and soon to be factories) from.

I chuckle remembering all the threads with Trumpers posting how deporting farm workers would be no big deal, lots of Americans needed those jobs. It must be exhausting to constantly come up with rational for Trump's caves. Next up meat packers, restaurants, lawn services and pool maintenance.

Only if they are required to identify themselves, be documented, and given an ID allowing them to work legally as temporary residents who must maintain contact with immigration periodically to remain legal.
Thereby if stopped by ICE all they would need do is produce their ID, which if is found valid they are free to go. Perhaps after a 10 year lapse they would become entitled to become naturalized.
Perhaps an alien ID smart card would provide a quick and easy solution.

That’s amnesty with a pathway to citizenship - aka a reward for those who entered illegally or overstayed a ‘temporary’ visa. That’s more than Obama/Biden offered to ‘Dreamers’.

Why not support the unionization of farm workers and hotel and leisure workers, raising the minimum wage and enforcing pesticide and worker safety regulations so that citizens and legal immigrants will take those jobs from illegals?

If you listen carefully, you can hear republicans gagging at my suggestion.

Amnesty (via ‘prosecutorial discretion’) is far less expensive and requires no congressional action.
