As long as Trump provides no national response and GOP governors (most) act like it's no big deal, we won't be out of this for another year at least.
Here's the thing. Trump supporters are for the most part mask deniers. They are for the most part vaccine deniers as well. Then there is another segment that has religious beliefs against vaccines. Then there those of us that won't trust a Trump vaccine being rolled out for political benefit. I would guess that no more than 35-40% of our population will even take the vaccine.
That's not a great outlook for the future of Covid-19.
The model used to project deaths from COVID and which has regularly undershot the actuals now predicting 3,000 deaths per day in December mainly due to the combination of flu season with COVID and American COVID fatigue. We have made several efforts to put up s defensive front to COVID and walk our way out of this, mainly all failed due to the ineptitude of our Federal response.
- Our initial response was laughable, defined by idiocy like "one guy from China", "15 cases going to zero", "will magically disappear". We literally ate up 3 months of time that could have been used to effectively fight the virus in this garbage
- that dovetailed perfectly with not ramping up any sort of National Strategy and Plan for testing and tracing, hence managing NONE OF IT from a National Perspective. At the same time long after health officials stopped recommending that citizens not mask up as a means of saving critical PPE for the medical community Der Leader was still not encouraging masking up and distancing, does not encourage it to this day and is now back to shaming people for masking up. Effectively then we have eaten up 6-7 months in Trumpian GARBAGE
- now having wasted all of this time in divisive confusion and lack of leadership from the top, we find ourselves with an exhausted populace, an exhausted medical community headed right into fall flu season still facing ugly numbers for transmission and death before we even get there
- we now have a RADIOLOGIST heading the COVID task force and he is recommending herd immunity via transmission in a country of 330M people totally oblivious to the fact that simply allowing young people to just get COVID risks long term health consequences for them and provides no solution to what happens when younger healthier people take this virus home to their less healthy, less young parents and grandparents. Great idea Dr Death, I mean Dr Atlas.
- We now have a completely politicized CDC and FDA. Redfield at CDC continually releases new CDC guidance under pressure from Der Leader and tries to walk it back in the Press. Hahn at FDA is talking out his butthole. Hahn should be fired for incompetence and Redfield should resign in embarrassment
Of course, Pillsbury doughboy Donald was not responsible for the origin of COVID. However he has simply exhausted all the time we had and in many cases Americans earned while he traded horse crap for Science and here we are. We never got our transmission rates low enough going from what looked like a high of 35k per day only down to 20k per day where we plateaued before shooting up to over 65k per day. Now we have taken 65k per day and are plateaued again only now at about 40k per day in this recurring nightmare without end. So is it any wonder that the predictive models are aiming toward 3,000 deaths per day by December?
