Seriously though, this is idiotic and symptomatic of not having a real plan. The administration should have known blanket tariffs on China would impact a lot of technology products, so if they weren't ready to hold the line, they should have applied tariffs in a more targeted manner than now having to blink more than someone who just got pepper sprayed. Good grief.

It's rather like his repeal and replace of the ACA. There was no plan to replace, only repeal.

I don’t believe it would be worthwhile to try. MAGA functionally are more like a photocopier than a sentient being. That is, they’re a relatively simple automaton that takes talking points from Donald and the media, then copies them many different times, day in and day out until new points are issued. They stay focused because they have been taught that any entity that is not Donald Trump is an agent of Satan, evil incarnate and anything they say is a lie.

So, you could try to explain things to @Taylor for hours on end, but all he will see and read is <words from Satan’s agent, ignore them>. So it becomes something of a waste of time for everybody involved.

Very good summary. I don't like to think that much of MAGA is unreachable, that patiently presenting facts will never break through the cult's defenses, but I'm at the point of accepting that tens of millions of American voters have decided not to accept reality, because it conflicts with their allegiance to trump.

Yup.

I do think it's worth trying to reach the Trump voters who aren't part of the cult. Perhaps that's some third or so of his support. But the (guessing) two-thirds that swapped Jesus for Donald and the Bible for his Truth Social account are lost, as far as I am concerned.
