This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.[W:261]

Re: This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.

Just a single datapoint, but it’s been replicated hundreds of not thousands of times.

A PhD student traveling to the US from London for a scientific conference is refused a visa.

Because of the country he was born in.

Does anyone feel safer?

These kinds of things will just drive investment and talent and brains outside of the US.

Then again, the Trumpettes probably are happy that less scientific activity will happen in the US.

People are flying here from the UK for a conference??? Don't these polluters know the ice caps are melting and we are all going to die? Good for Trump. Fewer people flying around the globe for useless reasons the longer the planet will survive.

Hopefully, immigration in the whole will not be stymied to the point our population does not grow. The reason we've had real population growth for the last 50 years is due to immigration. That will be the same reason for growth over the next 50 years.

Population growth for what specific purpose? Population growth to help improve environmental quality? Population growth to add to the excess of unskilled labor?

Re: This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.

shrug...

One would think a PhD candidate would be able to satisfy a government bureaucrat who is complying with government regulations. Obviously this PhD candidate couldn't.

He can’t satisfy them because he was born in the wrong country.

Yes. Scientific meetings are clearly useless.

We should eliminate them from the US and do things the old fashioned way.

Why don't you go in his place if its so damn important.

If he isn't smart enough to figure out how to video chat, then he isn't smart enough to make a significant contribution to science.

You think you can replicate the utility of a scientific conference with video chat?

I’m guessing you and Rev move in the same circles. Little ones.

again, I bet I am better educated than you, but you already know that.

Re: This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.

I say, stop ALL immigration for 10 years.

QUOTE:

"As you know, I’m a history buff. I think there are a lot of lessons in history, and I want to share some history with you now. I’ve spoken frequently in recent months about how immigration to the United States was more than curtailed. It was suspended in the early 1920s. From 1924 to 1965 we didn’t have any immigration. You’d be amazed still at the number of people who are hearing that for the first time and don’t know it. That simply is not part of the American education curriculum, especially now. I know I didn’t learn that in school, at any level of school.

But it is particularly relevant today because the left and Obama and the United Nations are all accusing the United States of these horrific acts of bigotry and inhumane treatment and behavior of people and so forth. And they want to try to create this impression that we are reaching new depths, that the United States is sinking to new lows, and it’s a terrible shame what’s happened because of the right wing bigotry and the closed-mindedness and all of that that exists in this country.

So I think it would be very useful and helpful here just to review a little history to let you know that what we propose today and what many Americans support today is actually traditionally American. It is not new. It is not unprecedented. It is historical. No immigration, 1924 to 1965. The reason was that we had seen a flood of immigrants to the country and we had to assimilate them. We took time to assimilate those who had come to America. They wanted to be Americans. They wanted to assimilate. They did not want to establish Balkanized beachheads of their countries. They did not forget their native cultures. They held on to them and they lived in neighborhoods, but they wanted to be Americans. They knew what being an American meant, compared to where they lived and where they were from. They wanted everything about America that they could get and they wanted to work hard for it. You know the drill.

But there was another reason why immigration was curtailed in the early 1920s. And would you be surprised to learn that that reason was terrorist attacks? There were acts of terror committed in the United States, mostly from groups, the so-called anarchist groups. They were really mostly communists. But, for instance, September 6th, 1901, President William McKinley was assassinated by an anarchist in Buffalo, New York. And in the early 1900s there were a number of bombings and bombing attempts committed by these anarchists, the majority of whom were from southern and central and eastern Europe. They were part of this massive immigration that took place in the country, the late 1800s into the early 1900s

That's what HE says...it's not what the letter said.

He must be a liberal...it's always someone else's fault.

Arman Eshaghi can go suck a big one.
Good for Trump.

trump-warrior.jpg

Is that supposed to be Trump looking like George Washington? That's hilarious, because these are the kinds of things George Washington said:

"I had always hoped that this land might become a safe and agreeable asylum to the virtuous and persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong."

"[Let] the poor the needy and oppressed of the Earth, and those who want Land, resort to the fertile lands of our western country, the second land of Promise, and there dwell in peace, fulfilling the first and great commandment."

“The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and respectable Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations And Religions; whom we shall wellcome to a participation of all our rights and previleges

The day Donald Trump can get himself to open his mouth and say any of those things is the day we won't laugh at your picture of Trump looking like Washington.

No, that's the result of Islamic terrorism. If it wasn't for the threat of Islamic terrorism, there wouldn't be a travel ban.

Re: This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.

Yes, you were finishing your PhD in watching Muslims celebrate in NJ after 9/11, right?

ahh goof, there you go again, losing all self composure. why don't you comback to me when you graduate.

Re: This is the result of the ‘travel ban’.

So what's the result of alt-right terrorism going to be?

I'd suggest that you move into the 21st century where such things are becoming increasingly common...

I’m familiar.

I guess all the scary mooslims should just Skype into the US, and we should just ban all international flights. It’s the 21st century! No need for travel anymore!
