The U.S.A. is a republic. We vote for representatives who are supposed to *represent* us (but seldom do so).
The problem is not really the politicians, although they have gone to great lengths to enable and further their system of flappers and kickbacks, it is the system.
We would be much better off if we could remove the politicians from their offices and eliminate the office, but humans are not ready to govern themselves so we are stuck with our elected royalty.
We *do* need to change the names though.

The ultra-rich politicians have no idea how their constituents live. The politicos think that $30,000/year is "rich" yet some of them are worth that much each DAY.
Like the French royalty of the 18th century, the rich politicians desire only their own comfort.
"What? The people have no bread to eat? then let them eat cake!"
The politicians have come to believe that they are our masters rather than our servants.
They are out of control.
It's time to vote ALL of them out of office.
We need to have a 'REMOVE INCUMBENT' option on the ballot.

we arent a republic or a democracy,we are a democratic republic.

a normal republic only allows for officials to be voted.

a democracy rather holds a weak leader,a council, and then the rest would be run by mob rule.

america uses both ideas from a ancient greek democracy and the roman republic,as well as a justice system that is modelled after theold viking court system.

maybe Scandinavian countries are a little democratic .thats all .there isnt real democracy in the world

We have become a Cronocracy with a dash of false Theocracy.

It was a good idea when we were more decent and our representatives weren't so over-remunerated and actually gave a **** about something beyond their careers and wealth. Now, not so much...

Or one could say that the United States are a federation OF republics.

federation of republics might fit as well.

but democratic republic fits better as its a republic with aspects of a democracy, such as voting on propositions etc.

however america was originially intended as a confederacy,as seen in the articles of confederation.the aoc were replaced by the constitution as a comprimise.the conservatives wanted a confederation or basically a bunch of independant states with a weak central government of limited power vs the liberal or federalist view that wanted strict federal power and little to no state power.both sides comprimised on what we have now, granting states power over local authority and federal over federal matters.

we vote for our leaders, and that makes us a democracy.

voting for your leaders is part of a republic.

in a true democracy, the leader is only in charge of running war and martial law shouldthe need arise, other than that the people fully participate in a democracy and write all laws, and the elected council and leader would ensure the peoples choices were enforced.

Democratic republic works too.

And certainly, there has been a great deal of consolidation since the states won their independence.

Either one works, I guess. The label isn't all that important to me.

I agree that a lot of consolidation of power has occurred since the states won their independence from Britain.

A republic is a form of democracy. It's a type of representative democracy. "Democracy" is a broad term that includes all the different flavors of representative and direct democracies.

a republic need not be a democracy. A republic can be a dictatorship.

Bull****.....theocracy....don't make me laugh.

a republic need not be a democracy. A republic can be a dictatorship.

you are actually correct on this.

like i said democracy is not voting officials, but true democracy is citezens voting and participating in all forms of government while having weak power, leaving most to the citizens.

a republic only representatives are voted, and as seen through many of the supposed socialist republics which were more dictatorships,a republiccan become a dictatorship,if the people allow it or if therepublic mandates it.

democracies and republics were plagued with problems,we tried to take the best of both while eliminatiing problems, why we are a democratic republic,to prevent the true democracies power of mob rule to prevent the majority from overriding the minority, while allowing a representative system that has to follow public opinion without being controlled by it,both a pure democracy and pure republic is flawed and we tried to take the best of both while eliminating as many failures as possible.

I thought we were an oligarchy...

no we are not an oligarchy, but we are in threat of becoming one if any side gains absolute control.

a severe flaw of the 2 party system is when both parties agree on everything but wedge issues, eventually an oligarchy can takeplacemhowever we are not there yet,but inching towards one through bipartisan corruption.

We are a democratic (democracy) republic. If we are not a democracy then who do we elect to be our representative every few years? We are a democratic republic that uses representative democracy.

a true republic allows representation through election.\

a true democracy allows the people to choose laws and vote for war and only gives the leader power over martial law and how a war is run.

there are fundamental differences between the 2,but saying we vote leaders means democracy is false,a democracy votes on everything through the people, and a true republic officials are elected and the officials decide everything.

we are a democratic republic because we have parts of both systems.if you want to refute itfirst study ancient greek democracy and roman republic before rome became a dictatorship.

ironically greece didnt fall during democracy but after they ditched it,rome fell after they ditched a republic for a dictatorship.

no, a TRUE Republic has no Monarch.

that's all it means.

not true,a true republic is elected representation.

now some countries like china north korea and the former soviet union have skewed the idea.but just because they claim a republic does not make them one.a true republic was the way rome was pre dictthey are a republic, even thogh they are a dictatorship,if your vote doesnt count your not in a republic, but a govt vlaimingatorship.most non western republics are republics in nameonlyand allow voting for one choice as means to claim that they are a republic.if your vote doesnt count you are not in a republic, but rather a country claiming to be one for show!!!!!!!!!!!!
