The shelves will be empty by June

Grogery shopping has come down to only buying sale items and buy 1 get 1 free items. The prices on everything are out of sight. This horrible admin is killing the average income American.
ILMAO........................

March was the first month in five years prices had actually fallen. Sure is neat how Biden time belongs to Trump. Whatever you need to feel better, Okay?

But will it actually be more profitable to build a plant in the US without federal subsidies?
That's something each business will have to decide for themselves.

But I don't see that as a reason to have the government give businesses taxpayer money.

China sells to the world.
Sure, but I don't care about the world. I care about the US.

Trump tariffed everybody.
Yes.

Your position is ridiculous.
No.

Will it hurt China? Sure.
Correct.

Will it hurt us worse (tariffs)?

Absolutely.
Wrong.

Bottom line: China needs the US consumers more than the US consumers need China.

OK. I've got an idea. How about all of us immigrate to Venezuela and El Salvador! It's a great trade. They all come here and we all go there!
Good idea. I'll meet you outside. If I'm not there in 10 minutes...no...make it 30. If I'm not there in 30 minutes, leave without me.

Would you like some cheese with your wine?

You first.
Well, I'm out of ideas. If the US sucks and we're all gonna die then why not go somewhere better? What could possibly be better than Venezuela? I mean, Venezuela is the most thoroughly Socialist nation in the world and their backup party is totally Communist so what more could anyone want? It's like paradise only better!

Don't worry Trump tariffs will bring Venezuela conditions to the US. No need to move

Well, I don't know about y'all, but I can survive very well by not buying stuff, so if the shelves are empty...I don't care.

But...if the importers aren't placing any orders, what is that doing to the Chinese manufacturers? Nobody is buying their stuff and they aren't making any money.

Instead of crying because you can't get that cheap stuff from China...stuff you probably don't really need...be happy that China has it orders of magnitude worse.

I guarantee, they'll blink long before WE need to blink.

btw, I don't see empty grocery shelves at my Walmart. Food is plentifully available. That's probably because we don't get our food from China.

Thanks for the Propaganda report. Now let’s deal in reality. We, thanks to Trump’s
First term make up about 14% of China’s export market. That means, worst case they lose about 14% of sales.

Some of those sales are Rare Earth Materials required for a lot of electronics. That means that the price will increase and then electronics will just stop being available. China has already blacklisted us on a lot of those. Hope you didn’t invest in Tesla because those cars are not going to have Batteries, or electronics, or anything else.

Now several chains will have major problems getting products. That means massive layoffs and possible bankruptcy. Unemployment rate will skyrocket, and coupled with inflation that means we go from Recession to Depression. At that point Democrats win pretty much every seat in Congress.

Boeing is going to be idled since nobody is buying their planes. China already returned one to Boeing saying no thanks. And don’t look to Europe. Ryanair in Europe has already refused delivery of airplanes.

All the winning.

Not to worry. Trump’s first rant will be about how he was totally disrespected at the Pope’s Funeral. Bad. Very bad. Everyone says so.

Sure, but I don't care about the world. I care about the US.

Yes.

No.

Correct.

Wrong.

Bottom line: China needs the US consumers more than the US consumers need China.
China sells things to US consumers to make money. No profit, no point in selling to the US.

As for what the US could actually sell to China, that China can't make cheaper currently the US doesn't want to sell to China. Ie mid-level computer chips.

So yea their will be an imbalance as they US doesn't make enough goods at good enough prices to make US made products attractive to world consumers.

The US needs to be more productive and cost competitive if it wants to export goods

Man. MAGA just seamlessly transitioned from "Trump is gonna bring down food prices and make everything plentiful again" to "You will have nothing and you will like it", didn't they?

But...if the importers aren't placing any orders, what is that doing to the Chinese manufacturers?

We are only 14% of their exports, and they are responding to us by striking trade deals with other nations in Asia and Europe, who has basically told us that if we make them choose, they will side with China.

Trump started by alternatively insulting, threatening, and starting a trade war with all our allies and partners, and is now hurt and upset that they don't want to bend over backwards to help him find a way out of the mess he created

Why would I be happy that someone else is suffering as a salve for my standard of living also decreasing?

I have three kids I have to buy cars for in the next few years. Trump is spiking that cost for me. My food and general living supplies already cost a crap ton (teens eat a LOT).

Trump is making my life worse, he's making my kids' lives worse, and your solution is to.... tell myself that someone I've never met is suffering more, so, hooray?

I guarantee, they'll blink long before WE need to blink.

Trump is the one trying to claim that China is talking. China is the one saying publicly that no they aren't. Trump is the one who wants phone calls - China is the one setting conditions on him getting phone calls.

Right now, Trump is a lot more desperate for a deal than China is.

btw, I don't see empty grocery shelves at my Walmart.

Shipping takes about a month to get here from China, and we have supply in the system already, both in CONUS and in Transit - which is why the thread title says what it does. Not sure how closely you follow current events, but it is currently APRIL, and the thread title says JUNE.

April comes a couple of months before June, so, things that are scheduled to happen in June haven't happened yet by April.

Glad I could help clear that up.

We are (until about 30 seconds ago when our idiot President decided that winning was bad, and threw the table over) very competitive and productive. We are the world's second largest exporter of goods and the largest exporter of services.

I guess the people shopping for Chinese made plastic spatulas at Dollar Tree will be upset.

Inorite?
Why is Trump so concerned about plastic spatulas?
Plastic spatulas are a non-issue.
But here is idiot Trump causing all this ruckus over plastic spatulas.
You are right! Trump is ****en maroon for starting all this over plastic spatulas!

How about this, I want as much as I can buy for my money, because I work hard for it.

Whose this benefiting again? We have very low unemployment, so we're not exactly short on jobs to do. Is our goal to have someone working minimum wage flipping a burger working minimum wage screwing in screws or sewing together undershirts? So that burger flipper is no better off, but the rest of us are worse off because all of our goods are more expensive?

The minimum wage employee is actually worse off when you account for the fact their costs are up.

So whose winning here? Seems like no one.

In this entire mess Trump's worst mistake was taking on China this way. Trump could lie his way out of the impacts from most countries in a way his base would buy but the impacts of the Chinese tariffs are going to slap Joe Average and small business owners right in the face and he won't be able to lie his way out of that.

Man. MAGA just seamlessly transitioned from "Trump is gonna bring down food prices and make everything plentiful again" to "You will have nothing and you will like it", didn't they?

You remember it incorrectly

They have always been favor of liking the nothing.

Just ask them.

You appear to not understand WHY Trump is using tariffs. He's not using them to "protect domestic industries". As you say...those industries don't really exist. He is using tariffs with multiple goals in mind and one of them is to RE-CREATE domestic industries that were lost decades ago.

Why would I want to give up a work-from-home gig making over $50 / hour to go back to making T-Shirts for $0.50 / hour in a dirty, stinking, awful factory?

Those newly created domestic industries are who we will start buying from.

No, because they won't be created. Corporations require predictability to make large capital investments like factories, and the rate of change in tariffs (along with the high probability that they will be overturned if they are maintained at high levels, politically) pretty much put us in a place of zero predictability.

And even if they decided that this was the New Stable Normal, it takes years to get that production up and running.

Instead a wave of small businesses will get wiped out while the big businesses hunker down and hoard cash.

Services is where the US makes real money.

Generally well paid ( at least for services provided to other countries). Certainly compared to assembling phones with lots of tiny screws

Services is where the US makes real money
Trump refuses to include services in the trade equation. When you do the US actually has a trade surplus with Canada. Most Americans don't know that and he doesn't want them to. The man is dishonest to the bone.
