The shelves will be empty by June

Man. MAGA just seamlessly transitioned from "Trump is gonna bring down food prices and make everything plentiful again" to "You will have nothing and you will like it", didn't they?

...

Glad I could help clear that up.
Thanks for that, my friend. The only ones "kissing Trump's ass" right now are his sicko-phants.

That's something each business will have to decide for themselves.

But I don't see that as a reason to have the government give businesses taxpayer money.
The reason would be to support the growth of domestic industries which provide manufacturing jobs to working class Americans. If that's not your goal, then there's no point in having tariffs in the first place.

That is the point of having the tariffs.

My point was that federal spending is not necessary to support the growth of domestic industries.

No, you'd just think they'd pick a cheaper item and save on the delivery fee.

If the image had been taken inside the supermarket instead of a screenshot of a website,

you would think the poster would has a point?

Would you then engage in debate instead of deflection?

It's necessary if you want that growth to occur within a meaningful timeframe, and in sufficient quantities to actually make an economic difference. Subsidies are governments best tool to rapidly grow industries, and you're just ignoring it. Why? I have no idea.

I do.

Then I'd only comment on the second half.

The title is a bit over the top.... you think?

I think the drop off in incoming shipments won't be felt until existing stock is depleted.

So, it could actually take until July or August until consumption outpaces supply

No, you misunderstood Trump's plan. The idea is to collect duties, paid by the US customers on imported goods, and to distribute that money as tax reductions for the rich.

Why are you shopping online for beef if you're poor?
I was making an observation. It's the same price in the store.

Where and how I shop is none of your damn business. And where did I say was poor? A person doesn't have to be poor to make sound decisions when they buy their food. I don't shop at Safeway. But considering there are three of them within a few miles from me, it's safe to say many people do.

You referred to yourself as poor here:

Safey here in N. VA. Ground beef at 11.99 lb.

Same grade at Walmart at @ $7.28 / lb. I don't know exactly where all this money is going, but it seems to me some folks are very wealthy on us poor folks.
One dozen Lucerne regular eggs are still @ $9.99 at Safeway.

You're welcome.

Ever heard of handicap folks who have a really hard time navigating a grocery store? I quit going to grocery stores when Covid hit and never went back. Walmart is only $98 a year for prime membership. (No delivery fee's). I shop once a week. The store is 4 miles from my house. Delivery fees are $9.95 for non-prime members. I did the math. 52 trips a year will cost significantly more to go in person than $98.

Come on dude. I was referring to the average American working class or retired people. Average is not poor. I think you knew that anyway.

I see you as a shrewd troublemaker.

Sure, but you were talking about poor people, not handicapped people.

This is the thanks I get for responding to your request for evidence?

As the other references make clear - it depends on the items. Perishables are going to be in short supply in weeks, not months. Higher-end items sell more slowly. That is why most predictions are June shortages for the bulk of the items.

Yeah, I'm already seeing the changes. Went to the grocery store today and the only thing available was Limburger cheese. Checked out Amazon and all I could get delivered was shoelaces. This is 100x worse than Covid.

Even though this is ridiculous, I did laugh.
