The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Why?

Spot, it squares because we have created a system that profits people on it the most by NOT being productive. It conditions them to be "losers". Whe working inevitably profits people the most in the long term, in the short term, staying on the dole is the easy path and a lot of people feel that it is more profitable for them do nothing for a meager existence than to work like everyone else for one that's somewhat more lucrative.

In other words "I've Got Mine Now By Gawd You Get Yours!"

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps even though you don't have legs or boots

Republicans don't need any help.....all they need is a bible, a used truck, a gun and a case of beer for their trailer. I live in east TN and around here Democrats are about as plentiful as teeth in hens. Guess What? It's a Red state. People who basically don't have **** going to the polls and voting for the party of millionaires and corporations.

Not everyone is eaten up with class envy. You're going to have to accept that your petty obsession with how much money "the rich" make isn't normal, healthy human behavior that everyone who isn't rich is going to exhibit. Most sane and honest people understand the idea of property rights and that what they worked for they should keep just like what you work for, you should keep. And most sane and honest people appreciate that. Then there are people like you who just want to peel the skin off your ears thinking about how much money some people have while you have to spend your days at work posting pinko political rhetoric on an internet forum and don't make nearly as much as you, apparently, believe you're worth.

Look.... if you're worth more than you're getting paid, then demand you get paid what you're worth. If there isn't anybody that can do the job as well as you do it for less money, you'll get paid what you think you're worth. If other people will do the job as well for less, then you're not really worth what you think you're worth. You're going to have to come to grips with this sooner or later or you'll have a really miserable life.

Right. How much are some of those political fundraiser meals? Like $20,000 a plate?

In other words "I've Got Mine Now By Gawd You Get Yours!"

I keep coming back to this in my head.... You're actually very close. You only missed by a few words. Here's what it really is.

"I've worked for mine and by Gawd, you need to work for your own". I don't have much, but I worked for it and it's more than some people have and that fact doesn't give them a right to believe that my having more means I owe someone with less some of mine.

The deal in this country is that you can work as much or as little as you want as long as you're willing to cut your cloth to your measure and live within your means. If you want more, EARN more. You aren't going to whine your way to wealth. You might as well get over that idea right here and now.

Oh God, this discredited teabagger meme. Consider Paris Hilton . . .

You have to love conservatives' commitment to bizarre oversimplifications concerning complex matters like standard of living and political economy.

Get a job, man. Seriously.

I think that cliche' is caused by yet another cliche'.

A fool and his money are soon parted. If people could pull their heads out of their arses long enough to get a deep breath of oxygen instead of methane, they might realize that rich can get poorer and poor can get richer and the real truth is that the SMART get richer and the DUMB get poorer. Give an idiot a fortune and they'll still wind up broke. Give a smart man a small amount of money and he will use it to improve and increase his fortune. Give an average man a small amount of money and it won't change his lot much at all in the long run.

It's a lot easier to build up a savings/investment account when you make $250,000 a year than when you make $25,000 a year. Just sayin'....

Right. How much are some of those political fundraiser meals? Like $20,000 a plate?

What, that's not within the budget of your standard member of the working class?!?

You'd think so, but the evidence available seems to indicate that the disparity is not as much as we'd initially suspect. The authors of "The Millionaire Mind" did great work dividing the "wealthy" into those who were high net worth v high income - and it turned out that many of the High Income were actually not that High Net Worth.

Most of whether or not you save is from internal, not exogenous factors. Self - discipline and a willingness to live on less than you make regardless about whether or not that helps you keep up with the Jones's appear to be the most determinant factors.

That high income earners are often over-spenders is no surprise... but the difference is still real. On $25,000/yr you're struggling to survive, not to keep up with the Joneses. The lower-earners would have a hard time putting up even 2 grand a year and still pay basic bills.... the higher earners could put up twenty grand/yr and still live extravagantly.

And regardless what you make, if you spend it all and have nothing to show for it, you've done a poor job with your money and are "poorer"..... and if you've saved anything at all, you got richer.

You don't have to make 250,000 a year to have a savings and/or investment account. I've got both and make a small fraction of that. It might be easier for me if I had 250,000 a year in income instead of an income that has me squarely in the ho-hum middle class, but I don't spend everything I make and I've saved for years and own my home outright and have some savings, some in an investment account and some in an IRA. My total debt is $1020.00 and that's only because it's free interest until February.

So the whole 250,000 vs. 25,000 remark about savings isn't relevant. No matter how little you make, you can save and no matter how much you make, you can overspend.

And yet, if that low income earner was investing in something like an education while working, he'd be getting richer. Even if it meant taking a school loan, he'd be paving a path to a better future than a job paying 25K a year. We've got money and we've got time and we can leverage either one to improve our lot in life.

And I'm quite sure some very smart people have figured out how to game the system, turn it to their advantage.

So this has to have some bearing on the whole "rich getting richer" thing.

I'm so sick of this "gaming the system" bull****. The rich don't create the damn systems to begin with, so why doesn't society point the perverbial finger where it belongs for a change?

I'll tell you why. Because society is ignorant and dumbed down. They won't blame gubment because gubment be payin for der house and food. Then liberals bitch when Bush cuts their taxes. Then turn around and support crap like corn based ethanol which directly drives up food prices. They demand higher minimum wages, which reduces the number of minimum wage jobs to be created or had. They regulate and tax the hell outta oil companies who in turn charge more for gasoline which raises the price on consumers. They force people to buy healthcare, which disproportionately hurts middle class families. Then liberals support the man child Obama, who lectures American families about "tightening their belts", while he spends $100 MILLION on a single trip to Africa.

F off liberals. You're the ones that make the poor poorer. Your philosophies.

Average income in America is almost $48,000.

You don't have to be brilliant to make it in this country. Just be average for Pete's sake, and you'll do alright. Geez, I'm sick of people blaming other groups of people for there being poor people in this world. It's not bill Gates' fault that the guy next door is poor!

Since when do the rich not create the systems?

Poor people made up capitalism? How would that work?

They don't have any capital.

Rich people didn't create the systems, government did, and government regulates them. The banks, the markets, the monetary system, businesses, industries, the tax code. The poor get poorer because liberal philosophy rules our entitlement programs, and dominates society. They believe in subsidizing poverty, and stand around scratching their dumb asses when more and more people every year fall into poverty.

I don't expect liberals to EVER understand this, because theyre ideologues, not intelligent. But when people become more comfortable in their poverty, the more poverty is perpetuated. And that's what liberals believe we should be doing. Shelling out more indirect funding, increasing poverty's comfort level.

Result? More people on welfare than at ANY other point in history.

I can make more than 24k a year tending bar, serving tables, mowing yards, or cooking in a restaurant. It's not that hard!!!!

So I don't have much pity for people with the ABILITY to do any of these things, but CHOOSE to do other things, or nothing at all.

Wanna know the average annual amount of money a person receives in welfare? $30,700.

$24,000 per year is about $11.50 an hour job.

So, why take a job paying $11.50 an hour when you can sit on your ass and make 30k a year? Liberals don't know how to do simple math.

Welfare payments are higher than minimum wage in all 50 states, with Hawaii being the the state with the highest equivalent, $17.50 an hour is what a person gets on welfare.

Maybe the problem is that we make welfare too easy.
This is absolutely true. It's pathetically easy to acquire welfare. ...but why not? Welfare = slavery to the Government. That's exactly what they want.

Welfare should also be embarrassing. It should be humbling to be a welfare recipient. Something that should be shunned. Something that means "2nd class" citizen, because honestly....one is less of a citizen if they take more than they give to society. It's the producers vs. the moochers. Right now, it's too acceptable to be a moocher. Just blame the producers for not producing enough. Never blame the moocher for mooching more than they should.

It used to be shameful. But today, people have no dignity or shame. In fact, they're not even greatful for it. They run around blaming the rich, when its rich people's tax dollars that's putting the damn roof over their heads and food on their tables.

Agreed.

Too bad that today's schools are graduating a population of students with an average less education that they did when I graduated.

I know some pretty smart people who are relatively poor.

I know more than a few exceptionally smart people who are middle, lower middle class at best.

Making money requires a lot more than just smarts.

It also requires other attributes in life besides being smart, but intelligence is probably key to success. Not just intelligence, but in specific areas. just like someone who is smart in science might not be in art, etc.

Swap the villains in your story.

Think "Bread and Circuses" (welfare and cable tv)as the answer to people getting REALLY pissed about the way things are going.

Then explain why the people who decide who we get to vote for don't pick better people.

That is probably true, too. I've known a few millionaires and the ones I've known were as frugal as me. Given that I'm not a millionaire, I'm guessing I should be more frugal using that as a measure. :)
I know a guy who had a small manufacturing company and did OK. He then had a product that helped revolutionize the semiconductor industry. Within four years, as the company grew, he didn't have enough capitol to keep up with demand because he couldn't grow the companies manufacturing capability fast enough. Borrowing from capital investors is expensive in loss of private company control. Instead, he sold his business. If I recall, he got $17 million in stocks, $17 million cash, and given a VP job for the corporation he sold to. It was the patents he owned that were the bulk of the value.

Just upper middle class before that.
