'The Country You Destroyed': A Letter to George W. Bush
by Ralph Nader

George W. Bush
George W. Bush Presidential Center
PO Box 560887
Dallas, Texas, 57356

Dear Mr. Bush:

A few days ago I received a personalized letter from your Presidential Center which included a solicitation card for donations that actually provided words for my reply. They included “I’m honored to help tell the story of the Bush Presidency” and “I’m thrilled that the Bush Institute is advancing timeless principles and practical solutions to the challenges facing our world.” (Below were categories of “tax-deductible contributions” starting with $25 and going upward.)

Did you mean the “timeless principles” that drove you and Mr. Cheney to invade the country of Iraq which, contrary to your fabrications, deceptions and cover-ups, never threatened the United States? Nor could Iraq [under its dictator and his dilapidated military] threaten its far more powerful neighbors, even if the Iraqi regime wanted to do so.

Ralph Nader sucks. And it is Ralph Nader that got Bush elected anyway.

How old is that asshole's letter and who gives a **** what he has to say now?

Correct if Nader hadn't competed in Florida Bush would have never won, he siphoned off just enough votes to beat Gore handily, just like Ross Perot did for billy jeff clinton.

It is true, though. We achieved the seemingly impossible by taking a country ruled by a savage, bloodthirsty dictator, and made it worse.

But he sure did hit the nail on the head with his letter to Herr Bush.

I think Bush was destined to win Florida by hook or crook, come hell or high water.

"Breaking" news?

I think my definition must be very, very different.

Obama is hardly the worst president ever.

I would like to see stats on how Iraq is "worse" today than it was before. Saddam averaged about 160 murders a day every day for 25 years just at the hands of his regime.

Link? 160/day seems kind of a lot even for him. In any case quibbling over numbers is sort of embarrassing, seeing as Iraq is in an unofficial state of civil war and is just about (if not already) a failed state. You can't exactly chalk this one up as a win.

Libya was already falling apart before NATO entered the scene, and what did we have to do with Egypt?

He was (mostly) killing the same kinds of people we've been over there killing for 23 years (or more, depending) not the average joe on his way to work. Now, absent Saddam's protection, even he's getting blown up on his way to work.

I wish I had a spork.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it was Pat Buchanan who cost Al Gore in Florida. Don't you remember all the bitties in West Palm Beach who claimed the chads were confusing and they ended up voting for Buchanan when they thought they were voting for Gore? I seem to recall Buchanan got 2 or 3 times the percentage of the vote in Florida than he got in other states.

If you want to call Iraq a success story be my guest.

It successfully got congress to think before granting waresque powers since.

Nadar 97,000 votes
Buchanan 17,000 votes (both rounded down)

Don't think Buchanan mattered nearly as much as Nader.

I'm curious who will be hilda's Perot in 2016 though?

I love it that Bush 'bushwhacked' Al Gore (the "Goron"), John ("Botox") Kerry, and all the Al Qaeda, Taliban, and Muslim murderers that bought the farm under his watch. And his detractors can go grow a 'rhoid' if they don't like it.

Ask the Iraqi people if it was a success or if they're better off - ask the Kurds in the north, who are flourishing - ask anyone but the Ba'athists who lost their protector and meal ticket.

Correct... It is just possible that Gore might have been worse than Bush.

Thanks for that gem of a contribution... can't wait to see what else you have to offer.
