Here's a guy who must not have read a word Thomas Jefferson ever wrote. He's certainly never taken a science book seriously.

Dusty Deevers is a fundamentalist preacher. He’s also a state senator. And he insists he doesn’t see “any firewalls” between his two roles — as he crusades to outlaw porn, end what he decries as the “abortion holocaust,” and abolish no-fault divorce in Oklahoma. He argues that the sole purpose of government is to “promote what is good in accordance with the will of God.”

Elected in a special election in December, Deevers represents the town of Elgin, in Oklahoma’s rural southwest, where he grew up and serves as the pastor of a Baptist church. The 47-year-old politician’s views are extreme — even for a Christian nationalist. Surveying American society, Deevers does not see a religious sphere and a secular sphere. He sees only Christian and Satanic.

“Either you’re coming under the rule of God your creator … or you’re going to come under the rule of The Serpent,” he said during a January podcast. In Deevers’ view, civil society, apart from the influence of overt Christian doctrine, is not a neutral middle ground, but rather the realm of the devil, or what he calls “a serpentine theocracy.”

WOW, He's exactly the kind of guy SATAN loves!!! We keep our porn and our women safe from society who seeks to give them human freedoms! Keep porn in the marital bedroom, and the kids you force into marriage barefoot and pregnant while you beat them on a daily basis to keep them in line!

One question about the porn allowed in the marriage...Are these porn stars ordained by God?

Oh silly me, of course they are, they're probably his own family!

Again, the Christian Taliban is alive and well. Look no further than these theocratic assholes in Oklahoma wanting to do all this.

(And I agree with others, he is probably at home right now watching porn.)

Fortunately he is in the minority. A minority which is dwindling which is why these type of religious nutters are becoming ever more vocal and extreme. Nothing a good education doesn't cure.

A question I always ask on threads like this one:
Where are the sanctimonious bible-thumping Righties on this thread. Too embarrassed?

I read Bibles, I don't thump them.

But I don't consider this fellow very relevant to my beliefs or my politics, and I'm not in OK, so I see no reason not to ignore him. As I've mentioned I am politically libertarian-ish, and not usually inclined to ban things. A lot of things are legal that I think are morally wrong, but my theology says people have to be able to choose.

Are you sure about that?

Does that include the young girls forced into marriages and lives of servitude? What does your Bible say about that?

Nothing a jail cell doesn't cure....

to what limit? if they chose to diddle little kids, is that ok? Or marry underage girls? Or force them into servitude? Does your theology have it's limits? or does it say the right to choose supersedes all moral confines?

Oklahoma is going through some things.

From what I've read participation in organized religion is waning. You have evidence to the contrary?
True, but it seems that the extremists are growing. Or maybe just less hesitant about being open about their extremism.

That's why I said they were becoming more vocal and extreme. Like dying stars. Boom!

And I hate to sound morbid, but they are dying off. Either that or getting arrested. We had a minister here in Alabama the other day arrested for child porn.

Unbelievable. My kids don't belong to any church. My wife is catholic but rarely goes. The synagogue in my town is now town hall due to lack of members. The only thing growing is the hacidic community.

But it's also about removing "some people" from being able to choose. Like girls and such marriages, like abortion, etc. Women may be able to travel to other states for abortions, but who's looking out for minor girls? Are the parents indoctrinated this way...if so, does that make it "right?"
