You can go pay for reral insurance, accept the consequences of not doing so, and if you decide to pay you can also decide not to take any assistance you would get from the government that would help you buy insurance with the money you would have been paying in taxes which means instead of your tax money going to some BS program for someone else, it actually goes to pay for your healthcare directly. You admitted you had the kind of insurance that didn't cover much of anything. So basically, as you get older you very well would probably end up in the hospital forcing you to declare bankruptcy having the state bail you out financially but I guess that's not being a ward of the state for some reason.

My insurance is for catastrophic events precisely so I do not become a ward of the state. What it does not cover is random visits to the doctor for sniffles or even stitches, I can pay for that myself.

I'm self employed and the insurance I currently have which is basically catastrophic high deductible does not meet obamacare standards and if I keep it I will pay that premium AND Obama cares fine.

Not true. If you are buying your own insurance you will not be fined.

I checked out what my insurance cost will be under obamacare yesterday and found out I will pay $150.00 a month. I am semi retired and have a low income so you Obama voters in your earning years will subsidize my insurance to the tune of $1600.00 a month. You will pay more for your insurance in order to subsidize mine and I don't wanna hear any whining OK. You guys wanted this and you got it, thanks for the free ride. I will LOL every time I pay my $150.00 knowing you Obama voters that are trying to buy homes and raise a family and get ahead in life are writing a check for ME! can you tell me where congress gets authority to force people to buy a product or service?

Technically speaking you can buy your own insurance and still be subject to the penalty under the right circumstances. You have to:
1) Have enough income to not be eligible for subsidy or medicaid/CHIP/etc
2) Not be on medicare
3) Buy insurance that doesn't meet the established standards
4) Have the total premiums be less than 8% of your income

Such people should really be slapped for buying such ****ty health insurance, though! I mean, there are even provisions to accept "catastrophic" plans that don't meet the exchange bronze-level coverage. So, your insurance has to be really bad to qualify you for the mandate tax.
