Why is it illegal to sell something that is perfectly fine to give away for free?
Is it free?
A woman goes on a date with a man, and ends up sleeping with him. Now you can easily argue that the woman paid for that dinner and a movie by sleeping with the man.
Or how about marriage. A woman marries a man and according to religious law, the marriage has to be "consummated". Now the question is... does the woman marry the man to get a child, and sex being a by product? Does the woman marry the man to get protection from him and financial security? That she sleeps with him for this, is that not payment for services rendered?
Face it laws against prostitution is a rule/law put in place by wives to keep their husbands in check by punishing the women they sleep with.

Some prostitutes refer to that life as a hole you can't climb out of.
Personally, I would like to see a program like this succeed, and I don't have issues with it being taxpayer funded until further studies can be done to see just how successful it is. The situation in many places has far exceeded the capabilities and resources of charity groups that have been doing this for decades, and unfortunately statistics of success aren't readily available on the internet (or I was just looking in the wrong places) to see if it really can make a difference in the lives of some people.
Personally, any program that actually gives skills training rather than a just a hand out, I will do my best to support.
I can't post this enough: MANY Texas Legislators and especially Rick Perry are fanatical extremist. Rick Perry is a fanatic without a cause.
Didn't anybody follow along with Perry when he was campaigning for the Republican presidential candidacy nomination? He is a total dimwit! He is a moron!
Let me add...Perry is more worried about Prostitutes than starving kids in Texas. Or whether or not Texas kids and read or write. He's an idiot!
I agree. How did criminal protitution become a priority for a jobs skills training program? Naturally the article does not address the specific benefits to be offered, but the principle of giving head of line admission to any taxpayer funded training program based on exhibiting criminal behavior is simply insane.
While I generally agree that helping to educate folks (at taxpayer expense) is a valid function of state gov't, I disagree that qualification for (or even priority admission to) such a program should be based on the demonstration of criminal behavior of any kind.

As a native Texan I can tell you that we have social problems so more severe than prostitution. They comprise such a small percentage of persons in Texas that could really use skills training.
Besides..."prostitutes do have job skills already". Why is prostitution illegal? Bible-Belt Religious nuts in Texas...that's why!

I know Texas has social problems, my cousins live there.
Seriously though, would not having at least A program, rather than NO program, be beneficial? There are those who would complain that there is no social program to help X, Y or Z, but don't appreciate that there IS programs to help to help A, B and C.
I don't think prostitution should be illegal, but unfortunately the participants quite often have drug and/or emotional problems that drive them into the trade, making it even more difficult to legalize it based on people's perceptions of the participants involved.
Prostitution laws, religious and state, were written by men.
Resources for social issues in Texas...are really becoming more and more scarce. And if we can't better educate children...make sure that their basic needs are met...then many themselves will fall into the criminal category. But rather than focusing on really important issues, this nonsense comes to the forefront of all of the social issues that plague Texas.
Educated kids means less crime, more jobs...and better paying jobs. Texas claims they create more jobs than most other states. Uh huh, more minimum wage jobs. More underemployed jobs that don't meet basic needs of families.
Sorry, I just can't agree with nonsense spending on prostitutes. I'd rather see a few hungry kids fed.
In case you don't know it. Perry axed medicaid that effects so many poor children in Texas.
We have tons of ****ed up people in Texas who sincerely need social, and job training skills taught to them. But I can assure you that in the end, the percentage of those who would truly take advantage of such programs would be few.
Texas Legislators are despicable radical creeps.

Exactly what did Perry axe? This is for my own edification.
There is a program list on the Texas Medicaid website, which seems to be fairly comprehensive....
Texas Medicaid Program - Overview Info
The following might help you understand. And reading back, I wasn't clearly defining the problem.
Long Struggle Ahead for Medicaid Expansion Advocates in Texas
Yeah, what a bunch of extremists! The crazy bastards want to treat prostitutes as victims instead of criminals! I bet next they're going to say that hookers are people too!
