Britain would not have been a multicultural island if it wasn't for the invasions of the Celts, the Romans, Vikings, Normans, and, of course, American tourists who love your fish and chips.
And best part of American tourists in Britain is that the British speak our language making it easier to find directions and haggle over exchanging dollars for confusing British currency.

I am simply defending the actions of Gov Abbott whom some posters love to denigrate.
Referring to the topic of this thread, I care more about him battling the invasion of millions of undocumented migrants more than a I do about a small number of prisoners suffering from Texas heat.

Yes, the Romans enjoyed England as a destination resort in Londinium and Bath.
And Hadrian's wall helped keep out the rabble from the North that resented the advanced Roman culture in the South of England.

Staying on topic, when prisoners in early England were incarcerated, they didn't have to worry about scorching heat like in Texas. They were more likely to freeze to death during the nights in England.

Yes that is what I want for America plus I love the "Lights Out At Night" policy. It would save billions in electricity costs. North Korea dictates only a few styles of haircuts for men are allowed. I would promote that as well. Any more questions?

Nobody is talking about Abbott's stance on immigration, which under the law, is not within his purview. The states are not legally allowed to enforce immigration law.

In any event, Abbott is a well-known racist, and far right-wing lunatic who has long needed to be removed from office.

Wallace turned himself around on race issues. He stated and rightfully, so that he was the voice of the people of Alabama and to me that is what leaders are supposed to do. I was in the south during the 60s and racism was everyday life. "FOR WHITES ONLY' signs were everywhere. I'm sure his assassination attempt had something to do with his change. I worked in Pascagoula, Mississippi in the late 70s and while the signs were down racism was alive and well.

States are legally allowed to protect their borders.
And if the Feds won't do it, even with Kamala the Biden border czar, then Abbott has to protect the border of his state.
And the people of TX have an opportunity to remove a governor every four years.

Immigration is a FEDERAL issue, it has always been a federal issue, and it will always be a federal issue.

Nonsensical right-wing bullshit notwithstanding. Texas DOES NOT have the authority to interfere in immigration issues.

But there are exceptions to this. While states must remain within specific parameters, they have relative degrees of latitude in their laws. States have certain freedoms in determining the laws of their own jurisdictions. For example, California provides more generous benefits to immigrants. It is a "sanctuary state." But, Texas has been notoriously unfavorable to immigrants and migrants. From time to time, the state has successfully restricted those benefits in damaging ways.

States rights is a bullshit right-wing pile of crap used by the right to try to justify their abuse of their citizens in direct violation of federal law. Period. End of story.
