Texas inmates being "cooked alive" without AC

Big deal concentrate on the racist trying to get back in the White House instead of a guy 60+ years ago. By the way there are still millions of racists alive and well today.
Yeah, I am aware of this fact.

Harris is winning at this time.

Don-OLD is not getting back in the White House.

No, they are not. You are WRONG.

Immigration is a FEDERAL issue, it has always been a federal issue, and it will always be a federal issue.

Nonsensical right-wing bullshit notwithstanding. Texas DOES NOT have the authority to interfere in immigration issues.

Jurisdiction and the Supremacy Clause

The U.S. Supreme Court has consistently upheld the federal government's jurisdiction over immigration law. SCOTUS has overruled attempts by state legislatures to single out immigrants. The Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution generally means that federal laws trump state laws.

But there are exceptions to this. While states must remain within specific parameters, they have relative degrees of latitude in their laws. States have certain freedoms in determining the laws of their own jurisdictions. For example, California provides more generous benefits to immigrants. It is a "sanctuary state." But, Texas has been notoriously unfavorable to immigrants and migrants. From time to time, the state has successfully restricted those benefits in damaging ways.

States rights is a bullshit right-wing pile of crap used by the right to try to justify their abuse of their citizens in direct violation of federal law. Period. End of story.

The Federalist Society is not a valid source. They are a bunch on tinfoil hate conspiracy theory-spreading asshats. Nothing more.

Allrighty, we are getting off course here, yes?

That is for bottled water. Arguing anyone has a right to bottled water is going to be a loser for you. HOWEVER, they do have a right to clean potable water. (y)

Agreed.

I agree with this statement.

If Texas is denying them water, the Office of the Inspector General needs to get involved and government officials need to be held completely and absolutely accountable for their bad behavior.

My apologies if my previous post seemed hostile. That was not my intention at all. I just get carried away.

Be well.

This is a humanity and workplace safety issue.

I cannot even believe that there are prisons in Texas with no air conditioning. Thats inhumane. It makes for a very dangerous environment when people are locked up like that. It makes it unsafe for those that work there.

My god Texas is such a backward hole, I actually lived there once years ago.

LONGEST SIX MONTHS OF MY LIFE!!!!💯💯💯

AGAIN, this is not just Texas, but a vast majority of states. Pick one and google. its shocking.
When I was growing up in Sugarland, there was a nearby prison that farmed sugar for the mill. Close to coast humidity plus heat plus rocking sugar all day and going back to no AC. Wow.*
Also again, Texas requires AC in its county (aka local) jails.

*Fun tip, the population of Houston really only boomed AFTER AC was invented.

Maybe if they would not be criminals, they would be at work in an air-conditioned building. Sympathy: None
First, read the constitution about cruel and unusual punishments. Second, are any being held prior to trial?

Clean drinking water was also discussed in that article.

I suggest you do not cross a state line into Texas and spout your anti-Texas rhetoric.
You might regret their reaction.
Remember: DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!

This is a bullshit duck technique.

It doesn't matter if they are criminals, they are human beings and American citizens protected by the constitution and what Texas is doing is in violation of both the constitution and human rights.

The government of Texas needs to be held accountable.

Making excuses for their cruelty is a bad look and is VERY shameful.

That is your opinion. We all have them. I favor mine.

I wasn't either.

I guess that made him hell on wheels.
He was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot five times by an assassin. Your comments reveals much about you.

Air conditioning didn’t exist when the constitution was written and so there can be no argument that AC is a right.

no one in prison is innocent, you only get into prison by being found guilty
What world do you live in? I was held in crowded conditions for five days in jail before trial. Charges dropped. So are thousands of others.
Again, are any of the inmates being held prior to trial, meaning they are still innocent in the eyes of the law?

Making threats now?

Absolutely shameful.
I am not in TX and I don't threaten anyone. Are you paranoid?

Here is a popular bumper sticker often displayed in TX.
DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!

You obviously don't know much about that state.

And Governor Wallaces comments reveal much about him.

Back pedaling a threat doesn't change it.

I am aware of the bumper sticker.

Texas is violating the constitution and will eventually be held accountable.

Accept this fact and move on.

As...an actual Texan...courts have routinely held that international border issues are the purview of the Federal government.
The expenditure of billions of dollars for fences and water obstacles has been a highly contentious subject, especially given the state of our road, public educational, and electricity infrastructure.

I am aware of the bumper sticker.
I loved the bumper sticker I saw once. Welcome to Texas - Gateway to New Mexico!

I agree. The government of Texas needs to be ordered to spend money on infrastructure, schools (no religion allowed), roads, electrical grid improvements, and a number of other things (air conditioning in prisons).

To get Texas to do this, the federal government needs to see Texas' surplus funds and give them back as needed to cover the cost of the above items.

The rest will then be forfeit as punishment for the unconstitutional behavior of the government in that state.

Awesome sticker.

Not certain they have the constitutional authority.

Awesome sticker.
The problem with New Mexico is that you have to drive through the Permian basin to get there. When setting up Hell, the Devil went to Permian to take notes, but had to tone it down as it was too terrible. :)

A fair point. Maybe not, but I hope they do.

Yeah, I see your point.

I wouldn't want to deal with that area.

The oil and gas that come from there is important.
