Texas inmates being "cooked alive" without AC

What world do you live in? I was held in crowded conditions for five days in jail before trial. Charges dropped. So are thousands of others.

Again, are any of the inmates being held prior to trial, meaning they are still innocent in the eyes of the law?
"Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."

And Governor Wallaces comments reveal much about him.
Life in the South was different from today, However, a portion of the Southerners today feel the fed is a dictatorial piece of shit much like blacks that may never trust the fed. Remember the words of form President Reagan, "We are the federal government we are here to help." Even Reagan knew the fed was crap.

As...an actual Texan...courts have routinely held that international border issues are the purview of the Federal government.
The expenditure of billions of dollars for fences and water obstacles has been a highly contentious subject, especially given the state of our road, public educational, and electricity infrastructure.

I loved the bumper sticker I saw once. Welcome to Texas - Gateway to New Mexico!
Having been born is Southwest TX along the Mexican border, south of El Paso, I am all in favor of legal immigration. My favorite relatives are of Mexican descent.
Who cares if barriers, walls, deportations, and more border patrol personnel are highly contentious subjects? If the TX people don't like them, then vote the governor out and let millions more illegal aliens in to ruin the economies of border towns and flood the sanctuary cities with more migrants expecting to be housed in formerly elite hotelsm and given debit cards to help them hide in the cities.

Getting back to the insignificant theme of this thread, the topic is like picking fly shit out of the pepper jar. I want Texas to become more sovereign in dealing with convicted criminals. If the prisons are hot like they were over 100 years ago, then that is just tough for those who should remain imprisoned.

Back pedaling a threat doesn't change it.

I am aware of the bumper sticker.

Texas is violating the constitution and will eventually be held accountable.

Accept this fact and move on.

Texas is NOT violating the constitution and will NEVER be held accountable.

Accountable to whom? Federal courts under President Trump?
A Conservative Supreme Court?
What are they going to do? Imprison a governor who is bound to a wheel chair?

Where is there any evidence to support your fatuous argument?

Yes, they are.

Texas is in violation of the 8th Amendment of the constitution. Your agreement is NOT required. When they deny basic needs such as water and suitable housing conditions to prisoners, they ARE in violation of the constitution.

Stop spewing bullshit.

People are dying due to heat in Texas because the state did not bother to add air conditioning to their prisons. Those prisons denied water to inmates and people died as a result.

The SCOTUS is not going to be involved, the DOJ will be involved.

At least 41 people have died in stifling, uncooled prisons in Texas during the relentless and record-breaking heat wave this summer1. Although the state has not reported a heat-related death since 2012, researchers and inmates’ families dispute those statistics. A 2022 study found that 14 prison deaths per year were associated with heat2.

The office of the inspector general needs to effective neuter the state of Texas over its criminal behavior.

The reich-wing government of Texas needs to face jailtime over their deliberate and willful violations of the 8th Amendment of the Constitution.

Here is the 8th Amendment:

Eighth Amendment

Eighth Amendment Explained

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Leaving prisoners with or without medical conditions in jails with no air conditioning and denying the water IS CRUEL AND UNUSAL PUNISHMENT.

Again, cease the reich-wing bullshit.

You should bean ad man for the ACLU.
How about this lawsuit brought against the State of Texas for all of this negligent behavior you are whining about?
How far do you think it will go?

Prisons are supposed to be a deterrent against criminal behavior.
Will thugs and miscreants ever learn terrible conditions await them if they commit crimes that send them to prison? If people obey driving laws to avoid getting tickets or losing their licenses, why can't would-be criminals realize they can go to jail and ended up in heated prison cells?

Simmons, along with several advocacy groups, are suing the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for cruel and unusual punishment. Their lawsuit says Texas prisoners and guards are "being cooked to death." It alleges un-air-conditioned inmate housing units "caused or contributed to 14 deaths per year" from 2001 to 2019.6 days ago

Federal lawsuit aims to force Texas prisons to have mandatory ...

They are not supposed to inflict cruel and unusual punishment so stop making excuses for them.

Again, not the point. This is a bullshit dodge attempt.

Texas DOES NOT have the right to violate the 8th Amendment. Accept it and move on.

The suit will succeed as long as it is heard outside of Texas.

If there was anything that made me resent Reagan — aside from his support of mass murder in Central America — it was that absurd statement, which I believe was something like “the scariest words in the English language are I’m from the government (he didnt specify “federal,” I believe) and am here to help.” That would be news to me, who benefitted from a government program for the uninsurable that saved my finances by providing me with (albeit expensive) pre-Medicare coverage for an incurable illness. It would also be news to those who benefit from FEMA assistance and a multitude of other programs.

As to people in the South, when that region didn’t, for example, protect Black people’s right to vote, they turned towards Washington for enforcement of the Constitution.

Maybe if they would not be criminals, they would be at work in an air-conditioned building. Sympathy: None
What level of treatment would be unacceptable for you?

The Constitution was here long before blacks fought for the vote but somehow it forgot blacks lived here. FYI Mass murder in Central America is much worse than the years of Reagan. Perhaps you would support sending American soldiers to go down there to fight the cartels and guerilla armies forever.

On August 11, 1984, President Ronald Reagan makes a joking but controversial off-the-cuff remark about bombing Russia while testing a microphone before a scheduled radio address. While warming up for the speech, Reagan said “My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”

God, how I loved that man.

How about this treatment? Force them to stop throwing urine and shit and spit on the guards under the threat of a year in solitary

Oh yeah, I loved it when Teagan praised the Guatemalan dictator accused of massed murder as getting “a bad rap.” Later the man was convicted of genocide. Who could not love a president so in touch with what America stands for?

Reagan restored military aid to countries who had that aid cut off by Carter due to massive human rights violations.

I think having to watch Dr.Phil, The five, and Rachel Maddow every day would be sheer torture for anyone.

I suppose I'm lucky in that of those I've only been subjected to The Five.

Nice deflection. Care to answer the question posed?

This is NOT acceptable.

They do not deserve to be baked to death because the State of Texas does not want to spend their 33-billion-dollar surplus on A/C for prisoners.

Texas needs to be order by the federal court to install A/C and then they need to divide that surplus up between the familes of those who are in this situation and the families of those who have passed due to heat-related issues.

The governor and his cronies need to serve time for what is occurring.
Its a cult of death and cruelty really…

lol

China is a role model for America?

When did you decide America should be more like China?
Before or after Trump?

weird AF shit coming out of Trumpco customer's keyboards
Its a cult a legitimate death and cruelty cult.

A reminder, the guards and staff have to exist in these conditions as well.
