Texas Sen. Ted Cruz wants drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to pay for a wall at the southern border of the United States. Guzman is currently on trial for allegedly running one of the largest drug-trafficking organizations in the world.

Cruz asked his supporters to become co-sponsors of a bill that would use the $14 billion that the U.S. government seized from El Chapo to pay for the wall.

Amid the partial government shutdown over funding for the wall, Cruz announced the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act via his official Twitter account. He had previously expressed support for a bill that supports $25 billion dollars for the border wall, and appears to be using the El Chapo act to raise funds.

After Cruz’s supporters sign Cruz's online petition, they are led to a fundraising page to “ensure more conservative victories in the future,” Newsweek reports.

Not a bad idea from Senator Cruz.

Why do we just sit on that money indefinitely? Why haven’t we spent it on something already?

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kind of agree with something Ted Cruz said.

Or how about we use that money to combat the opioid crisis?

You know, that actual crisis that is killing thousands of people.

Not I, said the little red hen. If he wants to use El Chapo's money for something else, that's one thing. Asset forfeiture is a mother****er to the criminal, but works out quite well for the agency receiving the assets.

But no on the wall. Use it for other things, but a big no on the wall.

He has $14 billion dollars. Or had.

$55 million dollars and Flint's water problem is over and done with.

A large portion can be used to increase border security.

Give some to the states to improve their schools.

Improve the VA health system.

There are a lot of things that we could do with $14 billion dollars, that doesn't include a wall most people don't really want anyway.

I was agreeing with the fact that this COULD be a way to use Chapo’s money and that it makes some sense. I agree with you in that there are many other things that I would put higher up the list than the wall.

**Edit: Forgot to include Superfly’s quote. Sorry y’all! New to the board and didn’t look hard enough for the correct response route.**

All of that is irrelevant. Flint’s water is not a federal responsibility, schools are not a federal responsibility, the wall
Is border security, the democrats can appropriate any money they want to the VA.

Ummm I vote border security. Other people choosing to shoot heroin isn’t a federal responsibility

You would still have 9 billion to do that as well.

I've been through flint, the water was fine. Get an updated example.

When the Feds confiscate $, is there a directive specifying what exactly the funds can be used for. Looks as if the Feds will be gatting a payday from Trumps buddy Manafort. I would be intersted to see how the funds are used by the goverment. I am assuming confiscated funds are deposited back to the US Treasury.

We'd save a ton more lives addressing that, gun violence, and mental health.

I mean, that's what this is about, saving lives, right?:)

Well, you guys are going on about this being a "humanitarian crisis" and cite the very rare instances of undocumented citizens committing murder, as good enough reason to build an absurdly expense wall, so I don't understand why you don't give two ****s about people dying from drug overdoses, guns, lack of mental health, lack of shelter, etc.

It's almost as if you're faking. :thinking

The money can be appropriated to the states to do with as they see fit, as you should have noticed when you read my post concerning schools.

There ya go....or put it into medical care in general as well.

Infrastructure would be nice. Horrible to see crumbling roads and bridges........Flint's water problem....lots of things this country needs before thinking about a damned wall.

Welcome.

Get the quote feature right next time or you are out of here.:lamo

I wholeheartedly agree that there are much better things to use that money for.

Boarder security...sure...shoring up current barriers sure. Building new ones where it has been shown to be needed....ok.

Managing adiction/opiod crisis.

Medical care.

Social Security.

Infrastructure in general.

Medical School for students who agree to work in under served areas for 5 years after residency.

College for those who cannot afford it who have shown a strong aptitude for needed areas.

Funding a study on how to cure Malignant Narcissism.
