Suburban Detroit homeowner convicted of second-degree murder in porch shooting

And even if it was purposely aimed, it is manslaughter. Not Muder2.

You were saying?

And?
Are you unable to recognize that that is an argument as to how the law would apply or not and not of what a jury would decide?
I clearly said it was manslaughter, which he was found guilty of, which is not me being wrong.
Secondly, you are pointing to arguments made before he changed his story. Had he not, it would have been straight manslaughter.
All you are doing is being ridiculous because you didn't know he was found guilty of both.

I agree. He screwed himself by changing his story. It rendered everything he said suspect.

I believe the jury found intent in his actions. Hence to murder conviction. He should have pled guilty to manslaughter. IIRC, there was such an offer on the table.

Yea, I don't understand why he would shoot just to be shooting. I think if he was a woman he would have gotten off. I think more people are sympathetic and understanding. It's more believable I guess if a woman is afraid for her life. Shrugs

I think you had it spot on in post #172, further I think that had this case been tried in say, a more rural setting in Michigan, chances are he would have gotten off...Everyone in Michigan knows what a lawless cesspool Detroit is, and has been for decades.

Just to set the record straight: he did not live in Detroit.
He lived in Dearborn Heights.
A suburban community of about 57,000 persons.

The homes in the area average about $120,000.

The community is about 80 percent white and 9 percent black.

The shooting did not happen in Detroit.

Well, I'm not sure why you are throwing out real estate statistics - but the average home price I got was $76K (again, not that that means anything).

As far as whether or not they lived in Detroit - Dearborn Heights is only about 15 miles from Detroit, so it's not like it's a stretch from the filth and the crime from Detroit to make it's way 15 whole minutes to Dearborn Heights. And Detroit is 82% black, 9% white.

So yeah, while technically this crime didn't happen in Detroit, it really happened in Detroit.

And Dearborn is about 12 miles from Detroit and Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills are about about 20 miles from Detroit ...and no those cities are not Detroit.

So if they aren't inside the city limits, you don't consider them Detroit?

Is your argument that all crime in Detroit stays inside this neat little box called Detroit City Limits? And no crime whatsoever happens outside those City Limits? Cuz that's what it sounds like to me.

Well I happen to live in the suburbs.

And I do not expect , nor do we have much crime in my suburban neighborhood which is about 20 minutes from Detroit.

The crime rate in Dearborn Heights is about avg. and about half that of Detroit

Crime rate in Dearborn Heights, Michigan (MI): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers statistics

Murders and robberies are about 20 times as frequent (per 1,000 population) in Detriot

Just a SNIP about who Geffory Figer is for those who unfamiliar with the name.

Who gives two ****s about some shister or where he lives. No one said that there weren't upscale places in the burbs. But if you are trying to say that Dearborn is on a particular with Bloomfield Hills I am laughing at you.

Go ahead and laugh.
The fact is Dearborn Heights is a suburban community.
It is not Detroit and while it is not as upscale as Bloomfield Hills , Mich. or my suburban lake community it does have a much lower break in and murder rate than Detroit.

Ok, so I guess it can't happen there right?

Oh please. I now where Dearborn heights is. I grew up on Lansing. DH is not real and you know it.

What the heck are you talking about?

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. But my city is Alameda. Are you saying that my town (quiet, mostly a bedroom community) has anything in common with the city of San Francisco?

It also reflects the belief that it's OK to shoot people because of what they might do.
That is part of the whole point of self defense laws. You should not have to wait to find out what they are going to do.
