Pelosi won't pass a wall-funding bill because the majority of we the people don't want to pay for the wall. Trump foolishly made it his "signature issue" and promised his base that Mexico would pay for it. She's doing the right thing, IMO.

So why did he choose the wording of his speech? He threw in that He pointed out that the jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. He said the public services they use impose burdens on our taxpayers.

He ended with: “We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.”

Yes Just because the Dems keep their word and Trump doesn't is no reason to blame Trump. The Dems promised Trump before the shutdown that they would not negotiate until the govt. opened. They are keeping their word. In Dec.Trump promised McConnell that he would sign the bill he passed to keep the govt. open. Trump lied.

So the Republicans controlled everything in Washington for the first 2 years of Trump's presidency. During that time, they could have appropriated as much money as they wanted for Trump's wall using budget reconciliation which would have only required a simple majority and there is nothing the Democrats could have done about it. Yet the Republicans didn't.

Then during a lame duck session, Trump and the Republicans shut down the government for a wall that those Republicans had 2 years they could have appropriated the money for using budget reconciliation with a simple majority that the Democrats could not have blocked. Yet, the Democrats are equally to blame? There is a reason why the vast majority of Americans do not share your view on this.

You do know that they couldn't just up and do whatever they wanted, right?
