I am not totally buying that one. It is an extremely rare Golden Retriever that has any issues in parks or dog parks with other people or dogs. I would wager that there is not a more universally agreeable dog than a golden retriever. While most pit bulls I have known were great dogs, I have also known a lot of them that were very dog aggressive and many that were people aggressive.

Seems like kid and dog were both being watched by the grandmother?

Tragic.

Children that age should NEVER be left unsupervised with animals. Especially strange animals. And this was a newly adopted dog that no one knew the history of.

Now we have a dead child, a devastated mother and grandmother, and a dog that will be euthanized.

And it all could have been prevented by proper adult supervision.

Not my experience. I've spent the better part of the last ten years working with the mix of breeds commonly referred to as "pit bulls" up at the local shelter. Have taken many of them into my home. They were all great with my grandchildren. Never came across one that was "people aggressive." As far as "dog reactive," that was dependent, as with all other breeds, on the amount of socialization they received when younger.

Btw, in all those years of working at the shelter, the only incident I ever had was with a Mastiff, who left a nasty puncture wound on my wrist but did not go any further than that, just a warning he gave me.

He was a funny little dog - loved to burrow under blankets and pillows and weirdo would jump up on the edge of the tub and get between shower curtains - he loved a steamy bathroom

But yeah, many of them are nippy little things. I think way too many tiny dogs are not only overbred, but also never trained right because owners treat them like accessories.
