somebody please correctly define gay!

First I would like to make it clear I am not against gays and am not trying to bash them. I just feel that the medical and political industries are just being politically correct not to define it like it truely is.

If everyone on the planet became gay or lesbien the human race would become extinct in about a hundred years. Based on this alone it should be easy to define the state of being gay either...

a:form of retardation
b:type of mental illness

For these reasons this subject should NOT be promoted in the courts by inventing gay marriage and also should NOT be celebrated and further promoted in schools.

I do know gay people and have absolutely nothing against them I am just against the way todays politically correct society is letting it get out of hand with the courts etc.

Anyway, why do you think schools and courts could make everyone gay? The opposite obviously hasn't worked.

All I am asking is for it to be correctly defined like it is:

b: being born with schizophrenia, etc.

Simple as that. If I was a certified professor or doctor I would push for these definitions so the world can make clearer decisions when the prospect of gay marriage comes up in the courts.:doh

Ok I think I understand what you're trying to ask here. You're trying to ask, how is "homosexual" classified within the medical community. Currently, its only classified as a "lifestyle" meaning the medical community only see's it as a form of behavior followed by voluntary choice. As you can imagine many of our homosexuals members will say different.

This however, is their way of hedging their bets. To date, there have been no credible studies on homosexuality and its causes ie, psychological or physical. What we have is observations of human and animal homosexuals and alot of theory. The cost to do such a study would be HUGE as well since you want to cover all of the variables, have a enormous human research pool, and would reach into several science departments requiring a large numbers of scientists.

But the problem lies in the context of the test. No researcher is willing to delve into the problem because it would require some or all aspects of the study to treat homosexuality as a "flaw". The potential political fallout, loss of grants, and shunning within their communities just doesn't make it worth it. Likewise, the results will have to be interpreted which could cause even more problems. If its a physical/hormonal issue then do you treat it as a disease with a possible drug treatment or not? If its a psychological issue, do you treat it as a mental illness with rehabilitation or not? How do you treat the issue?

As you can see it opens up a whole can of worms that many do not want to touch. For the time being its going to be swept under the rug. Far far under the rug.

So for now, its officially a "lifestyle" that may or may not be recognized legally by various states.

This is incorrect. The medical community defines it as a sexual orientation, NOT A VOLUNTARY CHOICE. Please post evidence of your assertion.

There have been no definitive studies that demonstrate the causes of sexual orientation, either straight or gay. There are tons of credible research that show that there is no difference between homo- and hetero- sexuals, psychologically.

The possibility of it being a psychological issue has already been show to be inaccurate, many times, in peer reviewed research. This is no longer an arguable point. What causes sexuality is not known. Hetero- and homo- sexuality are each variations of the same issue.

Correction. It is not a lifestyle. It is an orientation, no different from a heterosexual orientation except for how it is played out.

is just plain silly. Once again the notion that being gay/lesbian is somehow a choice is of issue here. There is no proof that it is or that it's not. There is also no proof that being left or right handed is a choice or not. It's simply accepted. So, the assertation that being gay/lesbian is in anyway a choice is utterly rediculous.
Being bi-sexual myself, I can attest from my own personal experience, that my sexual orientation was in no way a choice. ONLY the mere personal acceptance of who/what I am was in anyway a choice.

Your assumption of the definition of "promotion" is truly twisted. Is it concidered "promoting" when history classes teach about Hitler?
Is it "promoting" when health classes teach about sexually transimitted diseases? Is it "promoting" when schools teach foreign languages?

The problem with your assertation is that the American Association of Psychology and the American Medical Association BOTH have removed homosexuality from their lexicons of pathologies/medical defects.

There's NOTHING harmful to you or the homosexual in that person being homosexual. It does not affect you, effect you or threaten you in any way, shape or form.
It does not restrict the person from learning, has no physical manifestations, does not lead to harmful behavior, does not have harmful side effects...EXCEPT when people like you refuse to LEARN anything truthful or realistic about homosexuality and then attempt to force-feed your ignorance onto others.

What you and keorythe both missed is the fact that there's no medical proof that handedness is "inborn" either. But it is Medically accepted as such.

So, what exactly is the problem with accepting that homosexuality is inborn and NOT a "lifestyle" or a choice?

I attempted to CHOOSE to live a heterosexual life, but only caused me many years of pain and suffering. When I finally accepted that I am bisexual and stopped pretending to be something I am not, ONLY then did the pain and suffering stop.
