This is going to sound bad, but i do not think US is ready for a Non Christian President.
It took a long time for a Catholic to become President, do you remember the outrage then. I can never imagine a Atheist becoming President of the United States in my lifetime, if i remember correctly. I remember reading a while back atheists were the least trusted group in US
Its sad isnt it, really. For all the talk about America being the best Democracy and the most liberal, and most foward thinking modern nation, we are still discriminating our votes based on religious beliefs and not ideology.
If America could ever accept it, a Muslim leader might even be good for foreign relations with predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East, Asia, or Africa. Plus, I am infatuated with the Muslim religion, so basically I'd be appeased for a one or two terms.
Theres reports flying about everywhere that Obama is not an American citizen, there is no birth certificate record of him being from Hawai, and above all, that Obama has adopted the faith of his father, and is actually a muslim.
Now, America claims to be the land of the free, and the most modernized, liberal country, so why does the media feel like its a scandal that Obama may be a Muslim, and why are so many American citizens sensitive to the issue? Why have many in the American public adopted the attitude of the media and too do believe if he is a Muslim, it is a scandal? So what if he WAS a Muslim? How would the populace react if he was an open Atheist or Agnostic? Is religion, and this backwards way of thinking, still very prevelant in the most Westernized country in the world?
Which part of Islam infatuates you, the part about Dhimmi status for Jews and Christians, Sharia Law or the suppression of women?

What greater aspecrt of ideoloigy is there than one's religion?
I find Islam objectionable, and pretty much incompatible with concepts like civil rights, women's rights, human rights, religious rights and liberty in general.
Granted, but i dont think Christianity is either. I just think Islam is worse, sort of gets on my balls when people try to glorify Christianity against Islam when in truth they are no better.
Kaya, I have a question for you: Why do you ask this?
Nope. Read up on the topic. There have certainly been historical perversions, but in modern times, the writ is clear.
Islam on the other hand, only seems to become more repressive when studied more closely and implemented faithfully.
It's been many moons since anything approaching a mainstream Christian organization stoned, beheaded or publicly hung someone for religious offenses. Not so Islam.
Christian women can show their face in any country where Islam does not hold sway. So can any non-Christian woman.
In predominantly Christian countries, publication of tracts ridiculing the prevailing religious dogma is rather unlikely to get one executed, as opposed to countries under the dark influence of Sharia.
The primary non-Jewish advocated of the Jews are Christians.
Typically, in countries dominated by Christians, civil rights of individuals of other faiths are guaranteed.
In Christian countries as opposed to Islamic, rapists are generally considered to be solely responsible for any shame attaching to the act of rape, and not the victim.
One rarely finds a Christian clergyman extolling the virtues and Paradisiacal rewards of blowing ones self up ion order to kill strangers at bus stops.
