Here's what I think, and I know some of you are probably going to cry "foul" but oh well. Lots of women have done great things for this country. What makes Rosa Parks' actions any different? I don't recall any women from the Suffragette movement being laid in repose in the Capitol. Was that any less of an accomplishment for "civil rights" or does that term only apply to the desegregation between blacks and whites?


Rosa Parks did not want the attention she was given because she took a stand. And if memory is serving me, MLK never lied in repose, did he? It seems to me that there is some pandering going on, as if there is still something we have to prove. An honor shouldn't be just given to someone because of one action, and I believe with Ms. Parks, that was it for her, besides her work behind the scenes at the NAACP.

Former Presidents, Generals, and Politicians throughout the ages have been the only ones to lie in state in the Capitol. Ms. Parks, while brave in her action, fits none of those categories, and therefore should have been excluded as well. There are OTHER places in Washington. Heck, their original choice was the Lincoln Memorial, since Lincoln is credited with freeing the slaves. That would have been perfect, but yet some feel that isn't good enough.

I find an honor becomes cheapened when it is then given to anyone who becomes an "icon" as many have elevated Ms. Parks to be. Who's next? Music Icon's? Hollywood Icon's?

Let me just reiterate that noone is doubting he greatness and honor. She should be honored in every shape and form. However, the argument is this. It is becasue the honor that she is up for has only been reserved for presidents, great military leaders, and great politicians. She doesnt qualify for those requirements. That is why this in known as for alot of people a disproportionate honor.

Personlly, I can care less where they bury her cause she will just rot like everyone else that is 6ft under. Not to mention she wont care anyway once shes dead.

When it comes to shooting looters I could care less about a individual's color of skin.
