Should immigrants have a path to citizenship?

Should law abiding immigrants be given citizenship?

You're still presenting the gain as a Democratic strategy. And the composition of the gain is a mixture including asylum seekers. And gee, where are the millions and millions? All nonsense. Just the usual right wing need to hate brown people and pretend our economy doesn't depend on cheap labor.

See post #622. BTW, you could try to supply links indicating that no ‘surge to the border’ occurred during the Biden administration, but you would likely fail to find them.

Because I wouldn't look for "no surge to the border" I'd look for what it is Republicans keep claiming: Biden allowed as a strategy millions to enter. Guess what my success rate would be to find those links.

Okay, and? Which one of those tells us that Biden allowed millions to enter illegally as a strategy? YOu're now stating it's a strategy to allow people to enter illegally and what you've posted proves that. Cite those relevant passages.

Your MS Paint graph that you don't link to because it comes from some shithole right wingw website is hilarious. You are asserting Biden literally opened our borders. Prove it. Show me the declarations that we've abandoned the southern border. Show me proof of the millions and millions who poured in. Y0u're making the accusation, it's on you to prove it. IT's not on me to disprove your bullshit conspiracy theories.

you're really bad at discussions/debating

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/01/20/joe-biden-trump-immigration/ that's Day One

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters Besides the 8.5 million encounters, there are those who entered the U.S. illegally with the express intent of avoiding detection. Estimates put that number at 1.7 million “gotaways” over the past three years, which gives us the 10 million estimate.

you cannot say Biden didn't open the borders - even most liberals/Democrats admit Biden was horrible with the border and Kamala a disaster at the task he handed her.

c'mon man

All of them. Once US border patrol agents were kept busy ‘processing’ millions of immigrants crossing between ports of entry the number of ‘got aways’ increased significantly. Meanwhile, the Biden administration insisted that the borders were secure.

Your links didn't contain the MS Paint graph you used, so I was right. The links you did provide don't detail the Biden admin's strategy to allow millions of illegals. That's just your fantasy grafting on to it. You made an assertion that you used two links to not prove. Being "bad at this" seems to be in the eye of the beholder.

Where are your links showing that the borders were secure under Biden and there was no ‘surge to the border’?

I didn't claim there wasn't a surge to the border. There are always surges to the border, if you've read any stats on border crossings over the last 50 years it's nothing but surges and receding. You're making the pretty extreme and kind of insane accusation that Biden as a matter of strategy let in millions of illegal immigrants. You can't prove it, you just believe it cause FEELINGS.

Hmm… You’re making numerous claims without supporting links. Asking others to prove a negative (that Biden’s numerous immigration policy change EOs/EAs had no impact), while a surge of border crossings between ports of entry definitely occurred during the Biden administration is ridiculous.

No, I didn't ask you to prove a negative. I asked you to prove the accusation that the Biden administration decided as a matter of strategy to allow in millions. And I"m guessing they did this so they could vote in elections, correct? So now you have two unsubstantiated conspiracy theories you want me to disprove. That's not how this works. If I accuse you of a crime, I have to prove it. And people are allowed to seek asylum, that's not illegal.

It also looks like the trigger for seasonal workers is too dependent on how many US workers..anyways..yes it needs reform
In 2023 after extensive committee work and debate the Republican led House passed the HR2 immigration reform bill with bipartisan support. Democrat Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer refused to allow the Senate to take up the bill for consideration, after all Democrats wanted to blame Republicans for failure to reform immigration.

Yes and then we remember the Republican bill Republicans killed because they wanted Donald Trump to win the election.

then you put up your links showing Biden's policies resulting in fewer illegals pouring across the border

I dare you to try it

I haven’t accused Biden of a crime. I simply noted that Biden significantly changed US immigration policy, resulting in a substantial increase in between ports of entry border crossings. Pretending that wasn’t intentional is ridiculous.

Trump's immigration policy is all theater and racism. Has nothing to do with enforcing law. Sorry, you were duped. Again. :(

why are you not addressing all the illegally here people pouring across? you're only wanting to discuss the numbers of deportations - and I know why

its because hundreds of thousands aren't pouring across every month. If they're not coming across its hard to deport the same numbers isn't it ?

examples - last month I was working/closing 50 tickets a day on network issues. We were seeing hundreds a day. When the core problem was fixed, we went from hundreds a day to 5 a day. When that happened I went from working 50 a day to 1 a day

do you understand how that works ?

My goodness what a selective memory you have. The so-called border security bill was written in secret by 2 Senators elected as Democrats and a single Republican. Use your fingers if necessary to determine which party held the majority. The bill was rejected by bipartisan vote of the full Senate, twice.

Can you not see the difference between the Democrat Senate majority leader pole axing regular order so Democrats wouldn't have to vote on reform and the Senate majority voting to reject the backroom bill?

I cant imagine why folks would oppose a bill allowing up to 5K/day (150K/month or 1.8M/year) to cross the border between ports of entry. ;)

That’s not what the bill said. And we know how dangerous this “invasion” is, the GOP went on vacation after killing their own bill. GOP immigration policy: theater and racism.

Sen Lankford is a DEMOCRAT? Uh huh

Really?

Changes the default when the border is overrun from releasing everyone into the country to deporting everyone out of the country. When the average number of crossings exceeds 5,000 people a week (which it has every week but one in the past four months) everyone crossing illegally everyday is rapidly deported out of the country without an asylum screening. In the past four months almost a million people have crossed our border. If this law had been in place four months ago, all of them would have been deported out of the country, rather than released into the country.

  • Trigger for Emergency Authority: The bill included a "Border Emergency Authority" that would empower the government to effectively shut down the border and expel migrants seeking asylum, if the average number of encounters reached 5,000 per day over a seven-day period.
  • Mandatory Activation: This authority would become mandatory if encounters reached an average of 5,000 per day over a week or 8,500 in a single day.

The House passed H.R. 2 border security bill in May 2023. Of course, it never made it to the Senate floor for a vote.
