Senators Demand the Military Lock Up American Citizens

The US Govt. will not be detaining American citizens without charge or trial, indefinietely.

Not before this bill is passed...not after this bill is passed.

Weird how the same people who proclaim that the government can't do anything right will expect them to do this perfectly.

(p.s. they've already detained American citizens without trial)

she's been threatened with perpetual imprisonment with no trial, for speaking her mind, over the last 30 years?

Anwar al-Awlaki

Ya, but even he was reportedly being wined and dined by pentagon brass... JUST BEFORE he became one of the "leaders of al-quaida".

Suspicious?? Nah...

The bill was shot down as it was written...

Hoorah!!!

Did they shoot the one's writing it too?
lol wishful thinking...

But, to settle the debate : U.S. Rep. Justin Amash opposes defense authorization bill, calling it "anti-liberty" | MLive.com
Yes, this WAS containing language to target citizens and non-citizens alike.

OH **** I read that wrong... they did not shoot down the bill.

Senate OKs Controversial Detainee Provision, Setting Up Fight With White House - Yochi J. Dreazen - NationalJournal.com

They shot down the CHANGE to that bill that would remove this controversial language.

AWESOME!! Now, I can think about how in the future I can describe what it once was like to live in a free country to my children or grand-children... but to do so in such a way that I won't be disappeared as a "terrorist". YAY!!!

For those of you debating about the Constitution and whether or not it applies to foriegn nationals...

Any law could be passed that bars certain rights enumerated in our Constitution from being applied to foriegn nationals (or even US citizens). The question though is whether it would be allowed to stay in a Courtroom. If our legislative body passed a law that barred free speech to foriegn nationals I would give odds that it would be shot down. In fact I would would opine to say that there is a 99.99% chance of saying that it would get shot down.

However for the sake of arguement lets assume that our legislative branch would never try to circumvent or go against the Constitution as it stands now. This would eliminate the court side of this arguement. Thereby reducing this arguement down to the simple terms of whether the Constitution applies to everyone on the planet or just US Citizens. Now recognizeing this the answer to the question is obviously yes. The US Constitution applies to every person on the planet irregardless of citizenship or not. The reason for this is simple. The US Constitution does not give rights to the people. It restricts the US Government from infringing on the rights of the people. In otherwords it is written to assume that those rights are fundemental (ie: are already there irregardless of the government) to people and as such the government has no place in restricting those rights. For this reason no law that restricts free speech, religion etc etc could be passed by our legislative branch. So by default, the US Constitution is suppose to protect every person on the planet from the US federal government taking away thier rights.
