Schiff announces the scope of his investigations

https://intelligence.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=447

These are the 5 lines of inquiry the HPSCI will be looking into -

That's a lot of scope! Basically, Schiff has decided that it's completely justified to investigate anything and everything related to Trump and to do so for any reason.

I'd like to remind people that this "need" to expand the scope of investigation beyond and in parallel to the Mueller investigation comes two years after the most intense investigation of a sitting president was started and two years after than investigation has reported NOTHING related to findings that Trump, his campaign or the Trump organization collaborated with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

Schiff's "need" to investigate begins and ends with the unsubstantiated, unrealistic, and unreasonable assumption that Trump is somehow or other under the influence of Russia. It's nothing more than an attack on the executive branch by the petulant party running half the legislative branch.

I hope Schiff pushes through with this. I hope he pulls and exposes tax returns, personal financial information, information from business associates and campaign staff. I hope he hands out subpoenas like Rockefeller handed out dimes.

I hope that America gets to see first hand what "guilty until proved innocent!!!" means and I hope they get to see which political party promotes and practices that principle.

When there's a whole bunch of bread crumbs scattered around there's a good chance of finding a loaf of bread. It's not the job of Robert Mueller to tell the country what happened, and outside of an indictment, Mueller may not even be able to speak. That’s what the Congress is supposed to do. Adam Schiff will start from the beginning when then Chairman Devin Nunes mishandled the investigation by going to the White House last year to reveal some of the findings of the investigation, which sparked an ethics probe and removed him from the investigation. The committee fully intends to pursue a limited investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, that's where they began before the republicans interfered and abruptly aborted their investigation last March saying 'nope, nothing to see here.'

The democrats under Chairman Adam Schiff will be able to get answers the republicans were unwilling to pursue and obtain records that the republicans wouldn't ask for

You mean like the four years of BS Benghazi investigations against Clinton... 4 years of investigations that proved absolutely nothing and were 110% political. You're talking about that kind theme?

I keep hearing about comparisons to Benghazi but, among other things, the biggest reason for the continuation of those hearings was the refusal of Clinton to comply with subpoenas and release requested information. That has not been the case with Trump.

There isn't even a crime to investigate! The Russians aren't being charged with trolling the campaign because that isn't a crime. They're charged with identity theft and financial crimes. There is no evidence whatsoever that Trump was involved in hacking Podesta or the DNC so what else are you going to hit the guy with?

Now, according to Democrats, it's a crime for Trump, even as president elect, to associate in any way with Russians. It's illegal for him to complain about being investigated. It's illegal for him to fire the head of the FBI who ADMITTED to running a scam against him.

You guys are incorrigible.

No. The biggest reason was politics. Even some of the Republicans on the committee's towards the end of the investigation admitted it was 100% politics and a witch hunt. When you got your own people saying it was politics, then it was politics.

Add on the fact that they found nothing where these investigations of trump are finding all sorts of criminals around him, that's another difference between the two investigations.

Benghazi was all about politics.. These today are not.

But, of course, there are are crimes there to investigate. You just can't accept that basic reality.

And, no, Dems are not stating or maintaining that it's a crime for Twump to associate 'in any way' w/Russians. The head of the FBI did not admit to what you're claiming.

Why do you pretend to have any genuine interest in this matter?

There's sure been a lot of guilty pleas and indictments so far for a campaign that had 'no association' with Russians.

Paul Manafort - indicted
Michael Cohen - pleaded guilty
Michael Flynn - pleaded guilty
George Papadopoulos - pleaded guilty
Rick gates - pleaded guilty
Alex Van der Zwaan - pleaded guilty
Richard Pinedo - pleaded guilty
Konstantin Kilmnik -indicted
Roger Stone - indicted
13 Russian Nationals - indicted
12 Russian Military Officers - indicted

No, it's not a crime for the President of the United States to have a relationship with a foreign adversary, but it is a crime if it's proven he's been compromised in some way by that foreign adversary and is being used to give favors to them such as releasing the sanctions on Russia and overlooking the criminality of Mohammed bin Salman for murdering Khashoggi.

"incorrigible" isn't even close to describing what Trump supporters have been doing by defending this racketeering, dishonest, anti-American despotic president.

How dare congress do their job! Presidential harassment, witch hunt, fake news.

But those investigations were motivated by suspicions of actions that, even if the worst of them were true, were not crimes.

Even if Clinton and others knowingly lied about the motivation of the attackers, and even if Obama or someone else ordered the military to stand down, neither are criminal acts.

That you continue to defend those investigations demonstrates that even you do not believe the arguments you are making here about innocence until proven guilty, probable cause, or any of the other arguments you have made.

There isn't even a crime to investigate!

Nor were there any for the Benghazi investigations

With regard to Benghazi, as it turns out, gross incompetence and moral failures are not crimes. Besides, we've come to accept such things from Hillary as normal over the course of her involvement in national affairs. It appears she didn't cash in personally in Benghazi, so that at least is a refreshing departure from her normal behavior.

I love it when Trump supporters point at the other side and yell...Incompetence...or Liar.... or Immoral..... etc. but then excuse and defend the immoral incompetent liar currently in the WH..

There's no shortage of hypocrisy. The minority in government, having eked out a position of dominance in the House, is conducting investigations, much like the republicans did when they were in a similar position. I guess that's what you do these days when your proposed legislation isn't going anywhere.

Trump is fair game, in my view. Go after him. It might not be a wise decision at this late date, but that judgement depends on the outcome. That's unknown, but basic grandstanding by the majority in the House will likely be detrimental, in the end. The republicans got nothing for their effort. That should be instructive.

I actually agree with some of what you are saying. And thank you for the civil response. That's unusual here, unfortunately sometimes that includes me.

BUT I disagree with your statement that when the GOP had the House under Obama and had 1 investigation after another, including 4 years of useless completely political Benghazi investigations that the 'Republicans got nothing for their effort'. Actually they got the White House. The constant day after day, year after year email and Benghazi drum beat absolutely hurt Clinton in 2016.

I would agree, but I was only addressing the endless Benghazi investigations. The email business certainly cost Hillary far more than Benghazi did. She alone was responsible for the email bit. Benghazi was largely viewed as a policy failure surrounding a single event, but not attributable to any single individual within the Obama administration - as the endless investigations proved. There's no doubt that the GOP wanted a head or two on Benghazi, but there's a point after which any political benefit is rendered moot. At that point, the wiser course is to abandon the effort or suffer a public reaction that could outweigh any political positives.

IMO, recent history such as the Benghazi investigations show that, when it comes to stirring up the right wing base, no such point exists

That point always exists regardless of politics. Boredom takes over.

True but the right wing seems to never get bored with their fictional conspiracies.

It seems the left has a similar problem with Trump. The current House seems to believe their investigative expertise exceeds that of the FBI and Mueller. The public will tire of that shortly.

I have seen no evidence of that

They really meant after due process and a long trail proved her guilt. But that was too hard to chant at a rally. :lamo:roll:

It's a declaration of guilt and flies in the face of the shamelessly base partisan crap in the OP.

Who has called to imprison Trump without a trial? No one. Your post is BS.

Lighten up, eco....SC was just making a joke....I think.
