Actually I run with the idea that they are defintely people that cling to ideology over reality even when reality hits them between their eyes and are people that cannot and should not ever be trusted with a role in protecting and preserving the country. Live here? Sure. Enjoy the fruits and relative safety due to the efforts of those actually willing to make hard decisions? Sure. Trust them to do anything more than plant peace gardens? Hell no.
