Republican Debtlock: How Will More Evictions & Homelessness Make America Greater?

Forget it, the only thing Republicans care about is protecting the wealth of their most important fund sources.
What about the people?

What about the person who is making two house payments. Renting out their first house and bought a second. They cannot afford to not get paid rent.

If you want a sustainable and growing homeless population you would do exactly what they're doing in liberals cities like Seattle, Portland, San Fransisco, Los Angles, and New York. I don't think you would want to take those 'solutions' to a national level.
So true. Portlandia was pretty bad before covid. Then the homeless more than tripled. We had people lose their assets because they couldn't kick out people not paying rent, and some of the wealthy people became homeless to. Living in their RV's after losing income and assets.

Then, here in Oregon, it was voted to decriminalize hard drugs. I swear, it looks like the homeless population tripled again.

Businesses are shutting teir dood in downtown. Businesses are lost so many places. So many vacant buildings.

If it had been spent, I would agree. It hasn't.

Prove it.

I never saw anyone who claims we did not pay our debts show proof of that claim. Now it is your turn to do it.

Blame is the converse of excusing.
Blaming the poor is the excuse the greedy use to be selfish and cold hearted. 'Oh, it's their own fault.' Opposing higher taxes on the rich who can very well afford it because the needy 'made poor choices' is the height of arrogance. Did the latest descendant in a long line of cross-generational poverty choose to be born into poverty? Does anyone choose to be a child of parents who do not know how to be successful? Who only tell their children they will never amount to anything so there is no point in trying? The stress of being dirt-poor causes tremendous dysfunction. It's extremely difficult to chose to strive for a better life when one can hardly think straight and does not get proper nutrition nor sleep, and one is surrounded with people who have given up on success. The peer pressure is to just give up and accept it.

We can help some of those people. That is why we have to continue to try. We do it for them and we do it for America. The rich do not need us to protect them from tax increases. And they certainly need no decreases. The last tax cut saw no new jobs. All they did was stock buy-backs and executive perks. No new business expansion or job creation. That's because the consumer market is largely tapped out. People already have everything they can afford to buy.

We have to pay our bills, be good on our word to pay.

Republicans need to submit a budget. Biden already completed his proposed budget. Where is the Republican budget proposal? Republicans need to negotiate with themselves before they start making demands. It is reckless to threaten default.

Easy. They can blame the democrats for homelessness.

And the suckers believe them, and they get re-elected.
Wasn't it the Obama adminiodsration the pushed the whole covid lockdowns?

It has not been shown that the recipients of safety net services are able to work. How is a young mother supposed to work and care for children at the same time? Child care costs as much as a low wage job would pay. Rents are so high a low wage worker can't afford a flat. If we don't help people, they can actually be working and homeless.

Most recipients of government assistance are working. Their wages do not pay enough for them to live on.
And who's fault is it that they need assistance?

Republicans turn a blind eye to those in need. Very greedy and selfish.
Not true. The right is generous in donations to causes they support. The left is generous with other people's money.

Helping people out of poverty does not lead to more poverty. Helping people out of poverty reduces poverty.
How about we start by making it next to impossible for illegal immkgrants to have jobs US citizens can do?

Contraception isn't trusting God's will, don't you know? Instead, go raw and let the chips fall where God wants them to.
The 'God's will' argument?

Oh, good grief.

This is not a Christian nation. It is absurd to expect American atheists and others to live according to religion they chose not to acknowledge. Contraception and abortion are modern technology people will use whether legal or not. Legal is better because it's regulated. There are too many humans on the planet. It is only logical to allow people the choice to create more humans or not. Religion is a personal choice. Pushing a religion on others generally causes them to reject it. Religion only works for those who accept it. It can't be forced on people. That's dumb.

That (bolded above) is nonsense, which even Joe “Where am I?” Biden doesn’t believe.
"The validity of the national debt shall not be questioned." -14th Amendment.

This isn't about Christianity. It's about responsibility.

Why are people having sex, when there are very few way to insure a pregnancy isn't the result? Nobody should be having sex unless they are prepared for the possible results.

I have proposed this before, and I will do so again. If two people have a child, and they cannot afford to support the child at the time of conception, then in order to receive government assistance, both the father and mother get their tubes tied so it cannot happen again.

I take it as seriously as I took the FY2016-2020 budgets that were passed without a second thought. It seems it was perfectly fine to run up the credit card for things they saw fit, but now want to play this dangerous game because they aren't calling all the shots anymore. Just remember, 25% of the debt we have was rolled up under Trump and the Republicans in control, so they come off as just a little stupid complaining about shit now.

The national debt is already huge so why not just let it continue to grow more rapidly? ;)

Not when you're accusing people of being "greedy and selfish" because they don't agree with your worldview.
No. We're not getting personal on this. It is a discussion of ideas and policy.

It is greedy and selfish to have plenty of money and refuse to help the needy.

Joe Biden produced a budget. Republicans have had plenty of time to come up with their own budget. They have failed to produce one. If they want to talk about spending Republicans need to first come up with their own budget and then compare what they have to what the White House has. Then negotiate from there.

Until they do that, any negotiation is pointless.

Republicans can't even write a budget, they have no bargaining position.

They would have to keep in mind that any budget would have to pass the Senate before it goes to the White House.

If House Republicans want to do their job they need to work within the system instead of stupidly claiming they alone will govern. It doesn't work that way.

Everything the country has spent was voted on. That's all done. We can't unspend it now. We have to live up to our word to pay for it.

Here's a really great question. If Republicans have a spending plan to reduce the debt, where is it?

President Biden has submitted a budget. Republicans have not. They have had plenty of time to come up with a budget of their own but they haven't.

If Republicans can't even produce a proposed budget they are in no position to be demanding spending cuts.

Biden’s proposed $6.9T FY2024 ”budget” (outline) doesn’t reduce reduce the debt.

Abortion exists.

No sir. The compassionate thing to do is teach them to fish.

Sure it does, just not nearly as much as what invariable comes from socialism.

No governmental economic policy cares about the human condition. The government also seeks to extract wealth to feed itself, so that other governmental policy can create a new welfare group wholly reliant on them for their well being.

Teach them to fish instead.

'Teaching them to fish' is exactly what social assistance programs are designed to do and are effective at doing. Capitalism isn't doing it. Millions have been lifted from poverty to self-sustaining lives through government assistance programs. And once they break that cross-generational cycle of poverty, their descendants after that are better off from then on.

Capitalism is what produces poverty. Socialism is what addresses the problem.

Government is a good thing. It is how our society is organized. Without government all is lost. Government is how we teach then to fish. Capitalism seeks the low hanging fruit. The easy profits, the experienced workers. Socialism takes on the tough challenges. Taking those who need help and trying to get them to the point where they are self-sufficient productive tax-paying members of society.

We created our own self-government. If we don't like any part of it we have the power to change it. It is pointless and illogical to resent government in general. Government is not out to get you. Government is what we created to manage our country. We have to have a government; and it has to be constantly growing to keep up with the needs of our constantly growing country. Attitudes toward our government are not productive.

Stewart Rhodes has a huge attitude toward our government. Bad idea. He's doing an 18 year stretch because of it. We all need to appreciate our government more. It is a good thing.

Low wage workers probably shouldn't have kids.
Regardless of that good advice, low wage workers often do have kids. We have to govern the society we have, not the one we wish we had.

Pick any of them.
Medicaid?

Generally, many of these people are pretty close to disabled, some with severe health issues that make it difficult to hold steady employment.

How is making them work helping anything?

TANF? Mostly single moms with young kids. day care costs more than the work they can get.
How is making them work helping anything?

Regardless of that good advice, low wage workers often do have kids. We have to govern the society we have, not the one we wish we had.

And that has to involve allowing people who make irresponsible choices to suffer the consequences of those choices.

Yes, we have had long enough of free shit from the government to create a permanent underclass wholly reliant on the government for all the ills and woes of (for the most part) their own choices in life.

At what point should a child born into cross-generational poverty decide to take matters into their own hands? 7 years old? 12? 15? 18? By then the psychological damage of an upbringing of poverty is done. Before 18 they are dependent on their parents for whatever it's worth.

The 'life choices' argument is bogus.

Not yet there hasn't. What they do is move. To see this don't focus inside the US, where they tend to keep themselves in power through policy positions that they pay for.

See: Congress insurance

That is called moving the goal posts. We have lots of social assistance programs in America and we still ahve lots of rich people who did not move away and most pay their taxes willingly. Warren Buffett says his class is not taxed enough. That's the right attitude. That's the spirit of good will in America.

Maga people never explained when they consider America 'was great' that it might now be 'again.' But generally it is thought to be the period after WWII. Yeah, it was great for white people, that's for sure. They were given government incentives to study and build wealth. Blacks were redlined out of wealth building through prejudice and discrimination.

The highest income tax bracket of that era was 94%. Where was the big flight of wealth leaving America when the highest income tax bracket was 94%? It didn't exist. 'They would leave' is a bogus claim. It is a myth. It has no basis. A pipe dream. Certainly no reason to avoid raising taxes on the rich to pay for social assistance programs.

America, we have a lack of revenue problem.

Maybe?

Yes, or start their own. Gentrification is not going to go away because you want price fixing. We live in a Capitalist world. Grow or get buried.

Again. Teach them to fish.
'Teaching them to fish' would require a government assistance program. Capitalism isn't doing it. There is no profit in teaching people to become self-sufficient. But it is of benefit to a nation. And that makes it and ideal goal for a government assistance program.
