If you oppose a bill that would provide funding to the police, then you are essentially defunding them.

The simple act of not acknowledging the efforts of the Capitol police, or even doing something as simple as giving them a medal further demonstrates Republican disdain for law enforcement.

Sorry, that don't fly. The cities chose to reallocate funding away from police to other areas. As a result, less police equals more crime. Why should American tax funds subsidize liberal policies? Secondly, the democrats are responsible for the mass exodus of LEO through out the countty

Democrats have a crime problem

Thats just crazy talk

Yep, because that “rescue plan” bill was passed and yet many police budgets have been cut. I can fully understand why top demorats are now trying desperately to distance themselves from the moronic ‘defund the police’ mantra.

Where does the money for police budgets come from?

If less police equals more crime, could we eliminate crime altogether by tripling our police? What would police do then?

Nope, because the police can’t convict or sentence anyone.

What would police do then?

Make more arrests which result in no pretrial detention, criminal charges or convictions.

I agree we should add more LEO and have real consequences for crime. When prison is often a better place than the crap holes the felon came from, it's really not much of a crime deterrent. Call it moving on up to the east side

So you support increasing funding for courts and prisons?

Alternatively, we could decriminalize bullshit things like marijuana possession and eliminate millions of crimes a year...

Agreed counselor

And what happened to state and local tax collection last year?

Oddly, that was not used as the rationale for making those budget “reallocations”.

What a nonsensical claim. So every time you pass by a street beggar asking for money and you don't give anything the beggar wants then you "defunded" all those beggars.

It's not surprising they would claim this. The Baizuo medias fidelity to the party jas instilled a level of hubris in them that they have become in the habit of shamelessly making absurd claims. The question is; will the media be able to sell this to people who don't live inside their progressive bubble?

Quick Civics lesson -

Biden and Congress are not responsible for city budgets, so this doesn't relate to them. They are responsible for federal budgets and funding. And in that, Biden and the Demicrats supported funding the police and the Republicans didn't.

You ask why should Congress dot it? Simple. Because it is the right thing to do, if you want to help law enforcement and believe they help protect people.

And yet cities like Amarillo have a higher crime rate...

I couldn't help noticing that these cuts to the Austin police budget don't actually take police officers off the street, or am I missing something?

Quick reality lesson-

No, the cities should not have destroyed their departments then expect the tax payer to refund it.

I am curious to see if crime rates naturally decline as employment rates rise.

Like the Dept. of Defense, it's a bottomless pit.

Above the law and accountable to no one, law enforcement devours city budgets like pigs in slop.

Certainly in cities, this is because we lack the vision and will to deal with its source. And supporting cops is kind of cool in your typical right-wing, sadistic sort of way.
