Poisoning from e-cigarettes is on the rise, according to a new government report.

Researchers found a steady and rapid increase in the number of calls to poison control centers about e-cigarettes and the liquid nicotine used in them, according to the study, released April 3 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

More than half of these calls involved children age 5 and younger, and about 42 percent involved people age 20 and older who were poisoned by ingesting liquid nicotine, or absorbing it through the skin, according to the study.

In September 2010, 0.3 percent of all calls about any cigarettes or liquid nicotine were due to e-cigarettes. By February 2014, the number had jumped, and 41.7 percent of all such calls were due to e-cigarettes, the researchers found.....snip~

The Air Force bans them from the work place and here they banned them out of casinos and from indoor public places.....now more and more people are being poisoned. People are saying they help them to quit and I myself have cut my smoking in half with one.

If this is the case we have to get on top of it now. What say ye?

We should be having the FDA looking into it.

It helped me quit. I can breath much better. I don't care how many people need to die or how many years a side affect takes off my life. They can have my e-cig when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

I say Caveat Emptor and who gives a ****.

I still smoke, but much less and when my stressors are handled probably completely done, the vaporizers are helping immensely. The problem is that of course for the DIY crowd a few people are going to mix with poor lab technique or be lax with safe storage and unfortunately there isn't a fix for that.

Heya TM. :2wave: I am glad you mentioned that. As the FDA has now spoken out due to the kids deaths. They were on it but first have to issue a Ruling. Then comes the order.

E-cigarette rule coming 'very soon,' U.S. FDA chief says.....

ecigaretteNYCshop.jpg

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is "pushing very hard" to release a proposed rule that would establish its authority over e-cigarettes, the head of the agency said on Thursday amid concerns the products pose a risk to children.

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg told senators at a Congressional budget hearing that it has taken too long to move the rule forward and that she expects the proposal to be ready for release "very soon."

The FDA's proposal is currently being examined by the White House's Office of Management and Budget, which reviews potential regulations to assess their economic impact. OMB, which has been reviewing the proposal for roughly five months, has not said when it will be finished with its assessment.

A law passed in 2009 gave the FDA the authority to regulate cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco. It also gave the agency the power to "deem" other tobacco products to be within its jurisdiction but it must first issue a rule to that effect.

E-cigarette companies believe they should be exempt from the full spectrum of regulations, saying they would stifle innovation, damage small business and hurt consumers trying to quit smoking.

Hamburg also responded to concerns about an apparent rise in the number of poisoning cases from liquid nicotine, the substance contained in e-cigarettes that, when heated, forms an inhalable vapor.....snip~

Heya LMR :2wave: Yeah SAM/Smoke and Mirrors a while back was talking about this very issue. She use to work in that industry.

Like you I still smoke the real ones but I have cut my smoking in half with the ones I use.

I still smoke,

I have one cig every day or two, depending on what friends stop by and where I go. Compared to 10-15 per day, my lungs are very different.

Huge difference, I feel better even smoking less than the old pack+ a day era of my life

Usually, I only do so if I'm driving or if I am at a bar or something like that, more of a trust issue with the vaporizer because older kits failed on me in the worst moments in the past. I upgraded to a better model and it's been fantastic.

How does as one hit compare between the two?

I've seen people blow out massive amounts of vapor.

I do the same when driving now.....I have noticed the difference too.

Still in the morning I will have a real one with a cup of coffee. Now that winter is over and the cold temps are gone I can outside. This was the last year that we will have any smoking going on in the house. If by next winter I still am smoking. I will have the side room on the Garage heated. Which actually I am moving my Office out there.

What I do love about the vaporizers is that you can do it inside without any negative effects to the indoors, as well I like that we can control the flavors, dosages, and other aspects of it rather than having a simple bad habit to maintain.

My lungs feel great, guys. Just so you know.

Depends on the build. I've seen some of the guys with custom rigs who can blow out a gigantic cloud, one guy was working on a four coil system while I was getting some juice, dude blew out a cumulous cloud. The better models hit as hard as a cigarette, the best models hit harder.

Depends on the liquid (vegetable oil based produces more) and the quality of the e-cig. I generally take a few puffs and then set it aside for awhile. One can choose the nicotine concentration and thereby actually reduce the nicotine addiction gradually.

Do you get a head rush if you smoke too much?

Guessing people who don't know their limits are poisoning themselves.

Yeah, the one I have comes with different types of filters which reduces one down on the nicotine.....but then recently there have been a few cases of these blowing up in someones hand or their face. So when I do smoke it.....I am conscious to keep it away from face and not keep it around there.

Yes.

I think they're spilling the liquid on themselves, in pretty serious quantity (and not wiping it off), or eating it accidentally.

I just discovered a shop that is very knowledgeable about the subject, they pretty much said you will know if a battery is about to blow up on you because it will be almost too hot to touch, meaning the resistance in the battery is overloading it and it's gonna blow, that is either a bad battery or a short somewhere. Most of the ones that blew up on someone, I am almost willing to guarantee they didn't think the heat was a big deal.

Yes.

I know from years of smoking regular cigs that you build up a resistance. [like with any drug] It's not like you can find a much stronger regular cig to give you the greater satisfaction.

The guy who owns my favorite shop said he moved to using gloves at all times because he got a large dose on his skin and got a numbing effect. It can be absorbed through the skin and there are dangers to storage with anyone who is irresponsible or children, personally I would rather let the professionals make it than have all that stuff stored at home.

People just smoke more cigs.

You might be Right. My step son was telling me about this New one that is out there that People think is the Top of the line. I think he said they called it True Green Vapor or something like that. He says its out of Texas.

Plus I know Smartmouthwoman and she is in Texas and she was able to quit too. But I think she said she had a True Blue. But don't quote me on that.
