Pelosi tells Trump no State of the Union on Tuesday

It's a short walk from the House chambers to the Senate chambers.

It's the speech, not the place, that matters.

The Senate is too small to accomodate the guests, the media, or even just the repub members of Congress.

And there are creative solutions to this problem anyway.

But do you all realize just how insane discussing the Speaker's banning the President from the House floor is?

Ok, let them try that.. Oh the optics.. :)

Tim-
Yes as Trump would look like a buffoon

It ain't happening. Trump will find another venue. Unless Pelosi invites him. That would entail opening the Govt

It's necessary. Pelosi recognizes that all Trump recognizes is brute force. Everything else is weakness to him.

But in any case, if you look upon the last two years and think this is the most insane thing that has happened, then I would suggest that you examine your bubble with greater scrutiny.

Still not as bad as this idiot shutting down the Government...trump can deal with it...He isn't an Emperor

what are you willing to wager that tRump will not be able to deliver the SOTU from the House chambers on the 29th

avatars, signatures, voluntary time out?

He can deliver it from someplace. You do realize there are other possible locations? And at least some of the press will cover it.

No, it's not necessary. It's also not productive.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday she will block President Trump from delivering the State of the Union address in the House chamber on Jan. 29.

In a letter to Trump, Pelosi said she would not move forward with the legislative steps needed for the address to take place.
=============================================
I don't think Trump understands how the government works. The Speaker can order the Sergeant of Arms to not let Trump inside the House chamber. He needs to be invited & that won't happen with the shutdown in effect.

She can do that, it looks petty and political vindictive. Much like Trump cancelling Pelosi's trip. Have we turned over the reins of government to a bunch of petty, selfish vindictive three year olds? Then too, Trump could bypass the House altogether, deliver his SOTU speech else where.

To fulfill his constitutional duties, Trump could send the House and the senate his SOTU in writing to both chambers. This was the way it was done originally. Wilson was the first president to give the SOTU in a speech to congress. From Wilson until FDR, the SOTU address fluctuated between writen and orally. Since FDR it has been all orally.

Trump can if he has a mind to, give the SOTU to congress written, then give it orally to the American people in a speech from where ever he likes.

Then he should do it....and quit whining about...Still it makes him look like a buffoon....

I don’t think anyone needs Trump to inform “we the people” what the “state of the union” is......

For one thing, they would be breaking the law, and be subject to arrest. So would every guest Trump invites, and every Senator.

Secondly, it takes days to set up.

It's not like a real law, only tradition.. But point taken. Doesn't matter, anyway, Trump will deliver his address somewhere, and it still makes the idiot look petty.

I would argue that Trump keeping the government shut down isn't productive. In fact, I'd call that a bona fide national emergency. Not being allowed to give a speech from the House floor is nothing compared to the shutdown.

Anyway, as trump supporters are fond of reminding us, he can give his little speech from somewhere else. The first amendment protects his right to free speech too.

Haven't we all gone beyond creative?

No, he's not. Be clear in your understanding that while Pelosi can keep him from entering the House to deliver his speech, all she controls is the venue.

There are other venues. Perhaps Trump should simply publish his address. But who knows? He likes spectacle, and a sitting President being barred from the House would certainly be that.

what happened to all of that bravado about UNLIMITED options:
President Trump has unlimited options. Nancy has none. Political dumb move of the year.
the house is NOT one of those unlimited options

Trespassing is a real law -- not merely a tradition -- and if people enter the House while it is not in session, it is trespassing

Some of the press will cover it? Do you suppose any press outlets want to get scooped in the SOTU?

How many Tweets would the SOTU need?

Virtually unlimited options if you prefer.

Nancy has left herself with none.

he would look petty, anywhere

Not anymore. Whatever reservations some Democrats may have had about her, she has earned her place as Speaker since retaking the gavel many times over. She's exactly who we need as Speaker right now and Democrats get that.

Edit: see post 70.

I heard Pelosi say we're going to pass important issue for the American people as soon as they took the House. What has she done. Nothing that I know of. And she doesn't call our immigration policy an important issue that's needed an overhaul for decades . To her it's not an issue, because she says walls don't work and their immoral. You would think she would pass a bill to take down all the fences and walls along our Southern Border. Why would she not bring up that legislation????? Hell If walls don't work and are immoral take them down.
