Where's the fun in that? I believe that when it comes to constitutions, as many people should participate as (efficiently) possible. Much like with orgies and murder plots.

I don't think it was designed to be fun. All of the fun seekers have skedaddled. Let them quit.

The purpose is to write a new constitution. If one person writes a new constitution by themselves then the purpose was served.

Hmmm. I misunderstood the purpose to be a participatory process to involve as many as possible. My mistake. I'll wish you well but will back off for now and will observe from time to time.

No, you didn't misunderstand anything. This process is meant to get as much consensus as possible. A consensus of one is worthless here.

And I'd like to add to my previous message:

I do hope you continue to participate in the process, not in spite of the fact that you and I have such different points of view, but *because* we have such different points of view. A document written up by a group of people who agree on everything is just as useless as one written by one person

If you really mean that, I will wish I had given you my vote for President. :)

I'll reserve any final judgment on the process for now. And hope it does go well.

I vote for
B. sangha

This is signature-worthy stuff, too bad mine is full otherwise I'd use it.

I agree with the "too much procedure and process is a bad thing" camp. We're supposed to write a new Constitution and I'd like that we focus 99% of our energies on that. Not on figuring out the shape of the conference table.

A few simple rules that concentrate on insuring fairness and that all viewpoints are hears and a few fair minded folks to make sure that those rules are followed are all that are needed. I get enough bs posturing and concentrating on process/procedure in my day job.

This is the official Presidential runoff election. The candidates are Paleocon and Sangha. The candidate who obtains two thirds of the votes in this election will be President. In the event that neither candidate attains two thirds of the votes, the candidate who won a majority will be President, and the other will be Vice-President.

Only votes cast by persons listed above will be counted.

A - I vote for Paleocon

B - I vote for Sangha

This poll will close in 168 hours and voting will then end.

Since having a vice president seems like a good idea - help spread the work without getting into the whole Sergeant of Arms thing - I'd like to switch my vote from Sangha to Paleocon.

Is that possible?

Your vote will be recognized as having been changed.

In recognition of the need for a Vice President, I change my vote to "A", Paleocon. This and the above post should keep Paleocon above 1/3 to satisfy the requirements.

Your change of vote is recognized.

However, your math is wrong.

39 votes in the poll were cast for sangha, five of these were cast by non-participants, thus his total number comes to 34.

14 votes in the poll were cast for Paleocon, two of these were cast by non-participants, but Jango cast a vote for Paleocon as noted in post #22, thus his total number comes to 13.

With the change of vote made by you and paddymcdougall, this comes to 32 for sangha and 15 for Paleocon.

So one more change of vote is needed to put Paleocon over one third.

What is PirateMk1's position on the changing of votes? I am opposed to changing the votes because the poll is a pure record that cannot be challenged. Changing votes is a terrible idea. However I will accept the advice of PirateMk1.

I am also intrigued by the idea of having a Vice President - so long as Sangha and Paleocon can get along.

I am changing my vote to Paleocon - A

Please let me know whether this is acceptable.

Of course you are against it. It would sway votes in the other direction.

Clarification of the vote count.

The official count as of 4:31pm EST on November 22, 2014 is Sangha 32 Paleocon 14.

DaveFagan's vote was changed from Sangha to Paleocon.
Paddymcdougall's vote was changed from Sangha to Paleocon.

These 7 votes were not counted.

When will the vote be final?

Sorry, but I refuse to have someone try to sway my vote by private messaging me, asking me to vote for them.

That's tacky.

That is, of course, up to you. But that's how politics works...

It is a bit off-putting. However my thinking is that having a vice president around might be useful.
