The Issue

Let's be honest, NPR has been in the conservative spotlight for some reason for years. Currently, NPR is able to support itself mostly due to private donations, but around 8% of the company is run by government subsidy. I can't explain why this angers conservatives so much, as NPR never pits two radical pundits against each other to yell and scream. However, this might explain things a bit:

Poll: Fox most trusted name in news - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com
Fox is the most trusted television news network in the country, according to a new poll out Tuesday.

A Public Policy Polling nationwide survey of 1,151 registered voters Jan. 18-19 found that 49 percent of Americans trusted Fox News, 10 percentage points more than any other network.

Fox News, an organization that anyone knowledgeable admits is more of an entertainment source than a news source wins the popular vote in the most trusted station. Really? So while these people listen to Glenn Beck, Bill O'Relly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh on a daily basis, as a liberal I am supposed to cry for them when a fellow liberal (not a news pundit but a fellow liberal) says things he doesn't like about them?

Really, conservatives? Really?

FreakOutNation » Rush Limbaugh: Liberals Should Have Their Speech Controlled & Not Be Allowed To Buy Guns
RUSH: You're more than welcome. I've got the solution to all this. I've got the solution to most crime in America. From this day forward, somebody propose it, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns. It's just that simple. Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns. I mean if we want to get serious about this, if we want to face this head on, we're gonna have to openly admit, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns, nor should they be allowed to use computer keyboards or typewriters, word processors or e-mails, and they should have their speech controlled. If we did those three or four things, I can't tell you what a sane, calm, civil, fun-loving society we would have. Take guns out of the possession, out of the hands of liberals, take their typewriters and their keyboards away from 'em, don't let 'em anywhere near a gun, and control their speech. You would wipe out 90% of the crime, 85 to 95% of the hate, and a hundred percent of the lies from society.

So you want me to cry for you? To feel bad for you because some guy does not like the Tea Party, and yet you listen to a guy named Rush Limbaugh who says things like this? Why? Why should anyone feel pity for you?

Glenn Beck says: If you are a liberal, you probably worship the Devil : One White Duck | Progressive musings from a modern day liberal.
Beck: “Satanists in today’s world…look rational. Look open-minded. They’re tolerant. This isn’t the way Jesus would do it.”

Beck: “Our churches are going to come under attack and it will be through political correctness, it will be through open-mindedness, it will be through “why are you so hateful?”

That's right, maybe us liberals are satanists and that's why we are so open minded.

--------------

I am starting to believe that right-wingers are actual sociopaths. To believe that a man cannot have his own political views it appalling. And then, to attack his views as "crazy" when their most popular pundits say worse things daily is almost humorous.

Nice try guys. You might fool yourselves, but the rest of us can see how hard you are reaching. Please, you can keep Limbaugh and Beck, I don't care. You might get dumber every day by watching them, but keep them. But please, leave me alone and quit attacking things that make my life better.

Thanks. :)

To be fair, you've presented examples that represent the most extreme segments of conservative punditry.

To be fair, they are the most popular segments. Glenn Beck and Fox News get huge ratings and Rush Limbaugh is easily the most widely known conservative talk radio pundit.

Sorry, we're going to continue to call people out that you're just automatically going to like. Suck it up. There are, indeed, liberals here that actually display the qualities that are supposed to be liberal, tolerance, open mindedness, etc. Spud and SB come to mind, so I'm more likely to consider their point of view. You on the other hand, just want to attack and call conservatives racist and stupid. You are not what you preach. There's a name for that. ;)

Whether you choose to support Fox News or not is up to you. They do not receive government subsidies. On the other hand, NPR does receive some of my money without my consent. It's not large. Cutting the subsidies won't make a dent in the debt, but at least I would not have to support a station that I do not particularly like. I imagine that the OP would be less than happy about paying for subsidies to Fox News, even if that was only a few million.

What is this thread about?

He's a good dude, just gets carried away sometimes.
Let's see, he's called us all xenophobic, anti-intellectual and now sociopaths. You'll understand if I don't share your opinion of what a great guy he is.

Well, you could deal with Troubadour instead :p Although I think he got suspended, good riddance.

True, but the lesser of two evils is still evil.;)

Xenophobic and anti-intellectual are very arguable. Sociopathy, however is more difficult to prove .

True, but the lesser of two evils is still evil.

I think many people, including many decent individuals, are guilty of bias, or subscribing to stereotypes, or making sweeping generalizations about those they disagree with. There exist racists and bigots in this world who are entirely capable of being good people despite their willingness to generalize and dislike an entire social group. I think whysoserious's comments are his response to what he percieves as unfair attacks against all liberals, so he responds by painting a broad picture of what he perceives to be all conservatives, except the only conservatives he is probably familiar with are those who are the most vocal and hateful.

I admit, as recently as last year, I myself subscribed to the narrative that the Tea Party was racist, bigoted, xenophobic, and too willing to paint liberals as socialist and anti-American. I later realized that, although I vehemently disagree with some of their positions, its simply a different point of view, and that to paint the entire Tea Party as racist and stupid is entirely inaccurate and unfair.

So I think a distinction should be made between people who are just guilty of subscribing to an oversimplified view of reality, and people who are blatant liars and partisan hacks. Whysoserious seems to me to be more of the former than the latter...and I don't need to tell you who the latter consists of.

Yeah, yeah, I know. You're no better.

I'm a liberal you see, xenophobia and anti-intellectualism arent part of our global communist conspiracy.

Argue them then, please. With evidence.

That'd take a long time to gather evidence...I'd have to find a study that psychologically measures race perceptions and isolates the term xenophobia. It'd be quite an undertaking. Anti-intellectualism is evident in the right's media culture. Have you completely disregarded references to 'elitism' on the part of the left by the right? The hardest thing for a fish to see is the water, and all I see is that particular water whenever I begrudgingly encounter conservative, or more accurately right wing media.

Precisely. You have no evidence that the tea party, or the right, or conservatives in general are more xenophobic, stupid, racist, or ignorant than the rest of the general population (FYI, a survey concludes that Tea Party members/supporters are actually more educated than the general population at large). All you have going for you is a media narrative, and the repeated appearances in the media of the most vocal idiotic and extremist individuals of a broad group of people. Reasonable, rational, and moderate Tea Party individuals do not get as fair a share of the airwaves compared to the lunatics.

SB, I will always respect your point of view even if I don't a agree with it. I can appreciate your defense but I cannot agree with it. I don't use the 'hack' term much because I get accused of that myself. After I read some of Whysoserious' crap last night, generalizing all conservatives in intentionally offensive ways, I had to conclude that that's what Why is, so I will respond to him in the way I feel his hacktard views deserve. In calling him out though, I am trying to be careful not to lump all liberals in with him, because I know that would be equally unfair and untrue. On this guy, though, you and I are just going to have to agree to disagree.

I'm not completely sure about this, but I think he's a young dude like me, maybe he'll grow up at some point.

But but you forget by cutting funding the Feds save 0.2% of the deficit! That is of course why Conservatives want to get rid of the NPR funding, because it saves so much!
