No U-Turn signs are homophobic? (1 Viewer)

Do I what? Maybe what you are getting at might be explained better with more than 2 words.
It has zero to do with you, the citizens spoke and feel vindicated because no one cares about sexual orientation anymore, well most normal persons.

Besides cruising being a euphemism for looking for gay sex, no they aren't.

It was no different than the no loitering laws that were put in place but almost exclusively enforced against Black people.
You must have grown up in a different era than I did. "Cruising" used to mean driving your car up and down the street, showing off and trying to meet chicks.

Yup and that is why the anti-gay traffic signs were put into place. You are getting it.

The guy who called an insurrection aiming to topple the constitutional order and make Trump effectively a post-democratic dictator a "kegger" is freaking out . . .

. . . about a petty dispute about signs in a neighborhood in LA.

I continue to be unable to make it up if I tried. This is what you think matters in a general political discussion in America?

Christ, it's not even what Fox wanted: that you start articles about Biden being a few years older than Trump, thus crossing an invisible line drawn in the place it was drawn specifically so that Trumpists will say Biden is old but Trump is young enough.
Well, I guess it's slightly more interesting than Green M&Ms. 🤷‍♂️

So you felt the need to crowbar it in there.
LOL.. IF you would like to look at the context, I was answering a poster claiming LGBTQ was being victimized by "the right"

...YET, the LGBTQ people in the article were TARGETED in a city known to be highly progressive... yes I thought that interesting to point out.

but YOU never bothered to think about that , correct? because you were apparently ANNNGRYY I had the audacity to point that out.

eh, too bad.

It doesn’t take much imagination to envision a time when things like No U-turn signs, no cruising signs, curfew signs, and other restrictions were put up as pretexts for police in gay areas to stop and harass gay people.

Why conservatives get so damn angry over this stuff is beyond me. It just shows how much hate you have that being gay is now largely accepted as normal. Maybe if you stopped followed bigot Twitter accounts you’d realize none of this stuff matters. But if bigots can’t spend hours a day thinking about gayness and wokeness what will they do with their lives?
The only people who got "angry" where the white liberals and other perpetually outraged that are always cruising around to find something to be outraged about.
The signs had been there for over 20 years.
20 years.
They were originally put up, reportedly, because people who lived in the area said cars were stopping and turning around in the middle of the street all night long.
I don't believe it was because they were gay, I believe that the people who lived there didn't like coming home and there would be cars stopped in the road they live on, and dodging carscars doing u-turns.
It makes a lot more sense than the REALLY dumb notion that it was to "stop gay people from meeting" - which is colossal stupidity, considering there is literally a gay bar right there. Where gay people meet.

I am so incredibly outraged about this. Congress should drop everything and look into this extremely important travesty immediately. Look…I think you can see the froth and spittle coming out of my mouth and everything.

(Did I do that right?)

You realize these signs were put up 30 years ago, so you want to pretend it was recent. Also if you noticed the no U-turn signs were only for 12am to 6am, you know the heavily traveled hours of the night. If the time alone doesn’t make you understand the intent I am not sure what else to say.

OK. So for 18 hours a day gays could hook up all they liked but for 6 hours they were prevented from meeting each other because U-Turns weren't allowed. That makes all kinds of sense!!!

Closeted gays going out in the lat night hours to try to remain closeted is a bridge too far for you? Your ignorance towards persons you don’t agree with is being heard loud and clear.

No, no!! I TOTALLY get it. Closeted gays are vampires that can't stand the sight of an upside down U and have to run off. Like I said, it makes PERFECT sense.

Thank you for showing everyone why moderates/independents like myself attempting to have a rational discussion with a Conservative is like puling teeth. Your refusal to look at anything rational is the constant. Being purposely obtuse is the Conservative way

The "U" must mean something offensive.

Who knows. It's hard to keep up with what is offensive and what isn't to certain people nowadays.

But we know what offends right wing nutters. That much is crystal clear.

So you think a "No U-Turn" sign prevents gays from hooking up and I'm the one that's irrational? OK. You're the boss.

I am reiterating the history and why the signs were taken down now. Completely rational and able to understand facts. Crazy right?

So you think the idiots that put the signs up thought it would do exactly that?

Same here but I'm able to accept that others use a different definition of the word.

Explain why making a U-Turn at night is unsafe in a normal well lit area of North Hollywood as opposed to daytime.
The U-Turn signs specified nighttime hours only.
It's actually a somewhat suburban neighborhood so there's no high speed traffic or downtown snarls.

I get it, you feel personally persecuted about this.

You're so BRAVE @Lutherf !!
I'd love to hear your coming out stories.
How you spent all your years in school hoping you're not detected as being different!

Going through life in the United States as white and heterosexual can be a real struggle. Not knowing who you can turn to when you have questions. Having to hide your natural desires, worrying that you might be rejected, even disowned, by your family if and when you come out. Then when you finally find the person you want to be with, still worrying about things like holding hands in public. What if you offend the wrong person? Never sure if you can even report an attack if it happens. What if the cops are heterophobic?
Worrying about losing your job or apartment just for being who you are!
Dealing with politicians constantly proposing and passing new laws to limit your rights. Laws that allow others to legally discriminate against you.
Stand tall folks! Perhaps one day, what you do with your own life won't make any difference to others. Maybe one day people will stop telling you how you should live your life based on their beliefs instead of your own. Until then, celebrate your victories when they come and be proud of the progress you've made.

Is your memory bad? the 90s was not a great time for the gays, even back in 2008 prominent liberal politicians refused to back gay marriage, they had to meet each other in the dead of night, these signs were only in effect in the dead of night, You refuse to read your own sources and then refuse to remember a time you were alive in, but it's other people's fault you're outraged?

lol you know the action is indefensible when literally every right winger pretends to have no idea what is going on.
