NHL 2013 Thread.

Middleground.......just ouch!!

The season is already a total write-off for the Sens. No Spezza, no Cowan and now Karlsson. Not sure if Cooke intended to hurt, but he was certainly reckless. I hope he gets ****ing nailed soon.

Hawks Beat the Champion Kings 3-2. Improve to 12-0-3! We play 3 times and have won 2 already.

Also here is the Best of Sundays Games! ;)

It baffles me how the Bruins record is so good with such a ****ty power play.

I keep wanting to tell you to calm it down, your over the top fandom for the Hawks is annoying. Then I realize it is really mostly sour grapes and the reality is it is kinda nice to see pure fandom like this. Keep having fun!

Sour grapes, my friend - if you watch TSN or Sportsnet in your area you may have noticed they showed multiple other plays similar to Cooke/Karlsson where no injury occurred. Freaky things happen in a face-paced, high contact sport and when players get hurt it's not always someone else's fault. Phaneuf had his thigh sliced open last year, so these things happen.

I do think it would be a good idea if the league mandated that all players wear the kevlor socks that are highly successful at resisting cuts. Skates are deadly weapons and it's a miracle more players haven't been badly injured or killed previously.

I have no use for Cooke, but I think you are right. This was entirely accidental and a normal hockey play. It just went wrong.

Cooke has some hockey skills, which makes his antics irritating, but he's not to blame here - the league handled it well.

Well.....I luv the Sport and I don't have any problem giving those on other teams Kudos. Although usually moreso after the season.

Plus I like to see us start getting some hits to the site over our Hockey thread. I have seen some others and they really have some good threads goings. Pics, stats, and videos. Course all the usual trash talking too.

Back when they were raggin on this years draft.....I figured there would be some surprises. I think the hawks finally got a break and picked up a couple that actually better than what most thought.

I remember Richard Zednick caught a skate to the neck a few years ago....dude was lucky he didn't bleed to death.

EDIT...found the video

A few nights ago Toews started a fight with Thorton of San Jose.....Toews just can't fight and got his butt whipped. I was surprised he started it at all. Although during the game they said much of it was from last year.

I'd agree, but it's Cooke  He still hasn't been punished enough for the Savard incident. He shouldn't be in the league.

It's nice to see him (Toews) provide some leadership like that. He didn't need to win the fight to give his team a boost. He held on pretty good though. Maybe he just needed a hug.

I don't like Cooke. I'm not convinced that was on purpose. It looked pretty slick if it was on purpose. I don't believe his is slick like that.

I was at a game where a guy got all the tendons in his forearm sliced by a skate in a pile. His teammates carried him off the ice and into the locker room.

I was at a game, against the Panthers, Kovy scored, and one of the players, can't remember who, swung his stick in frustration, and whacked his goalie in the head. Think it was Craig Anderson, pretty funny

Quick's defensemen did that Saturday.

No, I saw that, it was completely different. He was standing still, and just took a baseball swing at his head, pretty awesome!

Yep, here it is. And it was Vokoun, not Anderson.

That wasn't leadership. Kinda the opposite, he totally lost his cool, and put his team down a man for 4 minutes. He already had a boarding call coming, then added an unsportsmanlike conduct call for instigating.

It's rare that he does something like that. And yes, it put them down a man, but their PK has been very good. It took him out for half a period too. They still won the game.

That's a tough one - I really feel bad for Savard, a great player, whose career seems to be over - I feel the same way about Cooke as I used to feel about Ulf Samuelsson in the 80s and 90s who I thought purposely injured many players and seemed to get off easy. Cooke may not deserve to be in the league, but the Karlsson incident isn't why.

Check this out.....it isn't NHL. But it is hockey. An entire hockey team in the UK quit over the owners criminal past.

Belfast Giants abandon franchise after owner is revealed as registered sex offender.....

GIANTSSS.jpg

In January, the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League (U.K.) – yep, the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” franchise – announced that American Christopher Knight had purchased the team, as Jim Gillespie sold a stake he had held since 2003.
It was supposed to be a new era for the Northern Ireland team. Alas, it was an era that ended only a few weeks later when it was revealed that Knight was actually a registered sex offender in Florida.

Knight, who made his money in the telecommunications industry, purchased the team for a reported £145,000 ($225,054.50 U.S.) in November, entering into an agreement with the Odyssey Trust, which owns and operates the Odyssey Arena. According to The Independent, Odyssey activated an out clause in its contract with the Giants after “major issues” about Knight came to light.

From the State of Florida’s sexual offender database:

Like the fact he was charged in 2003 with engaging in sexual activity with “a person 12 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age.”.....snip~

Y! SPORTS
<<<<< More here.

Looks like it didn't matter if he paid their salaries or not. Do you think a US hockey team would have done this?

So what do you think...good goal?

There is a rule in the NHL that if a player advances the puck into their own zone, an opposing player is not offside even if they are in the opposing zone before the puck enters. The player has to have control of the puck and purposely advance it back into their own zone for this to apply. The puck, in this case, hit two Nashville players before going back into their zone and it's possible the linesman determined that they advanced the puck back nullifying the offside. It's clear from the replay that this would not be the normal call 99 out of 100 times, but this is what happens when a sport played by humans is officiated by humans.

I understand **** happens, and it isn't like you are talking about two contending teams here, but that wasn't just offsides, it was way offsides. I think it is hilarious.

Agreed, but if you've ever watched an NBA game, you know hockey has some of the best officials of any sport.
