Here is the text of the non-binding resolution:

Reaffirming "In God We Trust" as the official motto of the United States and supporting and encouraging the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions.

I'm shocked that 163 democrats voted yes and only 8 voted no... Here's the list of who voted no:

The only surprise is that one republican is actually on that list.

Now there is a totally retarded waste of congresses time.

Now there is a totally retarded waste of congresses time.

It happens a lot more often than most people realize. They spend half their time naming post offices and schools in their districts back home and **** like that.

Is there a way to find out the dollar amount tied to this? As in, how much was the person being paid who write the bill, how long it took them, and then how much each senator was paid, to vote on it, how long it took them, etc?

I think that would be a pretty cool idea...start attaching dollar amounts to bills...and then advertising that to the general public.

Senators are paid a salary so not an easy thing to do unless you're a math wiz...which I am not.

I do have to wonder just how many jobs this reaffirmation created or saved. Let's ask Obama, if we can find him.

Obama didn't vote in this resolution, FYI. The House decides their own agenda/calendar. Specifically, Boehner and Cantor decide it.

What stupidity, where are the jobs Mr. Boehner!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to salute those Democrats that had the balls to vote against this bill.

I'm glad that Tea baggers and Republican think this the most pressing matter and number of priority that face our nation!

It is understand why Republicans hate the government so much! The sure suck at running it!

Thank you for this informative post!

I don't remember saying that this was an Obama vote. If it was an Obama vote it would have been called an executive order. Are you saying that Obama is the one that makes the determination in the case of job creating laws?

Fact: No president has ever voted on a law. The closest we get is that the Vice President gets to vote on ties. The president's can approve or veto legislation.

Obama doesn't listen to me any more. Perhaps you could give him a call and remind him that it is Congress job to make the law.

I am so glad they got that non-binding resolution re-affirming something that has already been done settled.
I was beginning to worry that they were just sucking at the taxpayer's tit and not doing anything worthwhile.

The people who voted against it are pandering just as much as the people who voted for it -- the only right answer was to be absent from the vote so that you could use the time for something useful.

I personally don't think our motto should be "In God we trust".

I don't care. We're still ****ing broke, they figure that one out? We still have over 9% unemployment, they figure that one out? No? But In God We Trust...that was worthwhile? Thanks Congress.

****ing useless dolts, we'd be better of drowning the lot.

It doesn't matter what our motto is. It has no legal significance whatsoever.

...

Although, personally, as a player of a certain Mao-oriented card game, I would like it to be, "The Queen's got big big titties!"

That's funny, an awful lot of this country (18-20%) DOESN'T trust in god. And that doesn't even count people who are simply lapsed in their religion. Not only is this a huge waste of time, but it's inaccurate.

It makes me wonder how many members of Congress actually trust in God. I certainly hope that everyone that voted for the motto actually believes it.

I disagree, there is noway in hell you know the motives of the people on either side of the vote. Not unless you're mind reader.

Norman Borlaug, btw, was a devout Lutheran whose Christianity motivated him to find solutions to the problems of food. Atheists who hold him up as an example to follow ought to double check his background. I'm pretty sure Mr. Borlaug would have had no problem with the recent vote in Congress.

I just think it to be hypocritical to have "In God we Trust" as our motto and an amendment "Separation of church and state". Not trying to thread steal.

Depends on how big of a fan he is of wasting tax payers money on issues that have already been settled.
This vote didn't establish a motto for the nation, it merely "re-affirmed" the existing one.
