North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has life-threatening pancreatic cancer, South Korean TV news channel YTN says.
YTN cited unidentified intelligence officials in Seoul and China as sources, but South Korea's spy agency said it could not confirm the story.
YTN said Mr Kim was diagnosed with the illness last year, about the same time he was reported to have had a stroke.
Mr Kim, 67, was seen last week looking gaunt and walking with a limp, fuelling more speculation about his health.
The rare public appearance was at a memorial on 8 July to mark the 15th anniversary of his father's death.
It has been widely reported that Mr Kim's third son, Kim Jong-un, is being groomed as heir, although Pyongyang has made no announcement.
Nuclear talks
The latest reports on the state of his health come as nuclear negotiators from China and South Korea opened talks in Seoul about how to handle the threat from the North.
One thing that makes me nervous about this is that the boyfriend will be in Pusan playing war games next month. Slightly too close to crazy Jong for my comfort.

That's so sad, I hope he dies.
Gotta wonder how would he react once he'll understand that only western doctors can save his life now.
China has no more control over him than we do. Kim would fire off a nuke at Beijing just as soon as he would anywhere else.Do not worry Ms Catz; Killer Kim is a classic bully, all bluster and no balls. If he crossed the DMZ the US would wipe his ass and tell China to like it.
He knows it, China knows it.
He is throwing a lot of crap fireworks around trying to play big man.
What the US should do is tell China to reign this **** head in, and reign him in quick time or the US will have no option but to re-arm Japan (who fears both China and North Korea) to the teeth. A Japan still techlicnologically superior China.
And China still fears Japan.
China keeps this creepy **** head in power because they do not want North Korean refugees, and because they do not want a unified democratic Korea on their border.
We have to make it more costly for China to keep Killer Kim rather than get rid of him.
Because the one and only thing China cares about is China.
Make them pay too much to keep this idiot Bond villian, and they will get rid of him.

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | N Korean leader Kim 'has cancer'
So, Chinese intelligence leaks have reported that Kim Jong-il has Pancreatic Cancer. Many feel that he now only has five years max, to live. So, does this news explain NK's behavior over the past six months, or does it mean there is worse to come?
The one thing that Kim Jong-il had in common with his father was rampant paranoia. If Kim's son shares that trait, as bad as Kim is, his death will not be a cause for celebration by any other nation.I think the only thing it will mean is that one of sons will take over and do the same **** those before him did.

I am not so sure. The same vices were attributed to Saddam Hussein's progeny, as I recall, and, if anything, they were more demented than he was.Yes, but the son set to take the throne, so to speak, is Kim Jong Un. He is the youngest of Jong-il's children and the most corruptable. There are reports that the successor is prone to partying and loves Western goods. So there may be a brightside in having someone more easy to bribe at the helm.

Around 10-15% survivability rate, it took one of my uncles(by marriage) and it was hell watching the deterioration, it's among the worst and most aggressive of the cancers, no system has an answer for this one. That being said, glad the sawed off little **** dictator got it.Even Western doctors could not save him if he has anytype of tumor development, as his condition suggests. Patrick Swayze and all of his money is nearly wasted away to nothing from the disease. Pancreatic cancer, is normally a death sentence, from what I have gathered.
