Moore wins Republican Senate primary, dealing blow to GOP establishment

This Moore guy looks a throw back to the days of segregation ....When Alabama was filled with bigoted rascit white men...Oh wait a minute...It still is

Yeah, the good old days when the Democrats had their "Klan Bake" convention in NYC, or when they filibustered civil rights legislation, or actually elected a former Klansman as the Senate Majority Leader.

I think all benefits should be very closely examined. There's far too much fraud. And while some safety net benefits are obviously required, nothing beats a decent job if one can work.

But that takes several things, not the least of which is self-initiative, education, a willingness to work, and a willingness to go to where the money is.

Sitting around in your dead former-factory town, crying & waiting for Trump and the government to bring you a job, is nothing but false hope. And Trump got a lot of votes by selling false hope.

I agree with most of what you say but "going where the money is" also assumes that you possess a marketable skill and have the financial means to afford moving expenses, a security deposit and a month or two for paying rent in a (higher cost?) area "where the money is" while you look for work and await that, all important, bigger paycheck.

That is one huge failure of the "safety net" programs which will barely sustain you in place but never offer you the very thing that may help most - sufficient up front funds to cover relocation expenses to "go where the money is".

Of course, many state/local governments would not like such a "safety net" program - instead of adding that "free" federal money to their area folks would instead be fleeing their problem areas and spending that money elsewhere.

There's an article at the Washington Examiner by Byron York that Moore's win isn't what many think.

I didn't know this and I doubt many people do except those who live in Alabama that their former governor Bentley left office in a scandal on April 10, when he resigned upon pleading guilty to using state resources to hide an affair he was having with an aide. Two months earlier, on February 9, a scandal-plagued Bentley appointed Luther Strange, to fill the Senate seat vacated when Jeff Sessions joined the Trump administration. But there was a problem with that as Strange was the atty general investigating Bentley's wrong doing. Strange got the legislators to stall on impeachment procedures against the governor while his office was investigating Bentley. In the meantime Strange meets with Bentley and accepts the seat as senator. Alabamians saw this as a really shady deal and the name Strange was associated with the crooked governor Bentley.

You can read all about it at the link below.

That's true, and the Democrats appreciate the GOP for taking those guys in. It's worked for the GOP for now, but the party accepting racists and bigots with open arms is a deal with the devil, and it won't be too long before guys like Roy Moore will finally doom the current version of the GOP.

That's a good article. I'd read much the same from a consultant who worked the campaign, and no doubt Bentley had an big impact. My mother in law lives down there and from what I heard from her friends, they all believed the Bentley/Strange deal was completely corrupt.

There also isn't any doubt, according to the guy I read, that Strange being McConnell's pick was another huge negative. The GOP exit polling I saw showed 55% said it made them LESS likely to support Strange, with only 20% more likely, and the consultant said their internal polls from way back showed the same thing - McConnell was toxic in Alabama.

Sorry, Bub, you're not perpetuating that old lie here. Total crap. That's the libs go to BS answer when they're called out on their racism. It's democrats racism, pure and simple, don't try and blame it on others. Take that fictitious garbage somewhere else.

Judge Roy Moore while exciting a rally...
...pulled out his three fifty-seven

A moment of joy that put him in heaven

Going back in his pocket...
...it went off like a rocket

During the specter he blew off his pecker

Now Judge Roy is Mr. no more

Yes, you are right of course. Blacks in Alabama and elsewhere are just too stupid to recognize that the REAL racists are STILL in the Democratic party, which is why blacks in the South and elsewhere almost always run for office as Democrats and vote overwhelmingly Democratic, despite the party STILL being the home of Klukkers and other assorted white supremacist types.

The weird thing is the GOP just can't get this message out to blacks. Should sell well so I can't figure it out - "Hey, you stupid black people. Don't you realize that the Democrats are the REAL racists??!! Vote for us in the GOP!"

Oh no...Somebody talking about what Democrats did 50 years ago....Try to keep up...The white bigots in the South are ALL Republican now

Example?

You do not want freedom, you want the government to impose on others freedom to force compliance to your world view. Again, there is nothing to stop you from grouping up with a bunch of like minded people and go after any cause you want. You only need the government to force others to join you.

Are you unaware of laws that restrict unions...?

Here, i'll show you the graph again:

Without a balance of power between rich and poor, we sacrifice prosperity for exorbitance.

Now, maybe you want to make that trade because you enjoy watching rich people have extra toys that go underutilized and you enjoy watching poor people needlessly suffer. I don't want to make that trade.

The BS continues to flow from you.. you are unable to backup your claim that the Democrat racists merely moved to the Republican party. Where are all the Republican elected Senators and Governors that are racists and Klansmen, just like they elected when they were Democrats? Go ahead, back it up.

Oh no...Somebody talking about what Democrats did 50 years ago....Try to keep up...The white bigots in the South are ALL Republican now

Okay, another leftist spewing BS. Back it up, or get lost with your lying BS.

Come on Chomsky....This post reminds me of the kid that was always looking over everyone's shoulder saying things like 'he's not gonna make it', and 'he'll never win'....If you are trying to tell us that democrats don't sell as you put it "false hope", I got news for ya....Their whole platform is built on selling the false hope of social justice redistribution...So you'll excuse me if I got a little chuckle from this....
You are right in that Dems are often no better, and the way they blindly throw entitlements, P.C., and social justice at the masses is a sin, too.

But poor Dem behaviour, doesn't mean we should give Trump a pass.

And yeah - I got an education and did a (small) geographic move to make a better life for my wife and kids, so I consequently have little tolerance for those that wait for government or others to bring things to lay at their feet. Hell, my family fled Europe for a better life. A free ride is a free ride, whether it's on the Southside of Chicago or the heart of Appalachia.

It's not that I don't want others to succeed. I just have low tolerance for those that complain, blame others, and wait for others to help them, rather than their shutting-up and putting the thought, efforts, and hard work to better their lives.

I'll tell you this: All else equal, you would often be better hiring an immigrant or the kid of an immigrant if you need a hard working employee that has self-initiative, rather than trying to instill initiative and work ethic in someone that spent decades collecting a check on the Southside or Appalachia. As an American, it gives me no joy to say that. But while we're all individuals and exceptions abound, I'll put my money on the guy that had the guts to up and move himself and his family to another country, so he could put on a better hustle to make a better life.

Roy Moore has defeated Luther Strange in the GOP primary for the Alabama Senate seat previously occupied by Jeff Sessions:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/powe...7192f8-a253-11e7-b14f-f41773cd5a14_story.html

The GOP establishment, including Mitch McConnell had backed Luther Strange over Roy Moore, and even President Trump had been persuaded to give a speech in support of Strange. Voters have given their verdict in support of Moore, even if their support for Trump is undiminished.

So you think Democrats are going to win Alabama?

Too many angry uneducated white people there...But Moore is a Nut job and a Religious fanatic ...It may be closer that established Republicans will like...Also Moore has a lot of time to say and do something wildly offensive and crazy...So you never know

You are exactly why Democrats don't win state and local elections as your opinion is that of radicals who ignore the foundation upon which this country was built. That nut job believes in the Constitution and simply because he wasn't supported by the establishment doesn't change the reality that he is closer to the people than the leftwing true nut jobs who believe it is the Federal Government's responsibility to take care of all social needs.

And what laws are these? Most laws are in protection for unions.

Never said you should...

Then why would you align yourself with a political philosophy of the "left" that loves to use these social entitlement programs to gain votes, and control people?

It's not that I don't want others to succeed. I just have low tolerance for those that complain, blame others, and wait for others to help them, rather than their shutting-up and putting the thought, efforts, and hard work to better their lives.

Everything I have, I worked damned hard for brother.

As long as that immigrant is here legally, then yeah, I have no problem seeing him/her try like any other citizen to get ahead...But, it seems as though in this paragraph you are giving up on the next generation of American's in favor of some random illegal just because they chose to enter the US illegally is, well, disappointing....

You angry white men still can't figure it out it appears

You've been exposed, and can't back it up. Now you have decided that making attacks on a group of people somehow proves something. Still waiting for you to articulate something.

Actually this Religious Nut job wants to defy the constitution and make America some kind Neo Christian state....He will fail but maybe in some backwater like Alabama he might get support...Always thankful I don't have to set foot in that god awful place

Well, those are good and valid points.

I don't want to come across as demanding and incompassionate. My problem isn't as much with those that have relatively temporary problems lasting months or a few years. I'm concerning myself with those that look at the same insurmountable issues for many years or decades without making a positive change, and then expecting government - in the name of Trump - to "fix" their situation. It's not necessarily the continuous hardship that bothers me, but the expectations of outside assistance.

If someone is living frugally in a moderate area, and they're happy enough in their lives, who am I too comment? My beef is with those that aren't happy, and expect government to make them happy.

And quite frankly, if anyone able bodied is struggling unhappily year after year, I believe the more enterprising will find a better way where they're at, or find a way to go where the grass is greener.
