MLB ⚾️ 2023

Otani is going to look good in blue next year.

Meanwhile, the Angels collapse and they will let Shohei Ohtani walk at the end of the year when they could have raided the Dodgers, Red Sox, or Yankees farm system.

The Angels are the ****ing worst.

The uppity Padres under .500 and 13 games back. Lulz. They were picked to win the division.

Wondering if Musgrove’s shoulder is tied to his toe. Snell, Urias, Giolito, Ohtani off the top. Too many Padres aren’t hungry. They’ve ‘been’ paid. You knew early on you had the AA and AAA pitchers. SD/LA start exhibition 02/23/24 at Camelback.

the goat weighs in on the Keven Brown issue:

The Cardinals need to DFA Adam Wainwright instead of trotting him out there so that he can keep embarrassing himself. He's been too good a pitcher over his career to see him go out like this.

Falcons hoping to score what the Braves did in game one.

assistant pitching coach might be a graceful out.
Younger guys like Liberatore need veteran advice.

As a Cardinals fan, I can at least laugh at the Padres. The Cardinals were picked to win the division but the NL Central was understood to be a piss-weak division going into the season. The NL West was not. The Padres weren't just considered division contenders but WS title contenders.

Yeah it's over for Waino. I'm sorry, but it is. I had to wonder whether he even needed to come back this season. I hope he come back somewhere and pick up his final 2 Ws to get to 200 and close it out, even if that's with another team as a mid-reliever.

I think I know why you're a Mets fan: Tidewater! I used to watch the Tides when they'd play the Richmond Braves during the strikes and sometimes during spring training or just random pickups.

Exactly. I grew up in Norfolk in the 70s and early 80s. My dad was a big baseball fan and had season tickets every year. We used to go to a lot of games and I watched guys like Strawberry, Darling, Sid Fernandez, Mookie Wilson, Dykstra, etc. The closest ML team was Baltimore, which wasn't particularly close, so that's how I became a Mets fan.

You nailed it.

That is awesome. Minor League baseball - especially back in the day - was awesome. It explains a lot of fandom. It explains, for example, why people from Shreveport, Louisiana became...lifelong San Francisco Giants fans. Or why Arkansas Travelers fans were lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fans.

BTW, that league back in the 80s was the absolute ****ing best. Tidewater, Toledo, Richmond, Pawtucket. Good God, just some awesome minor league shit.

God, you're bringing back memories.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why teams don’t cluster their farm teams near their home cities yo increase their fan base.

I've told this forum that one of my absolute favorite things to watch in a regular season game is a call-up game. To me, it's the essence of it all.

I used to go to Philly frequently in the 80s. Back then - not sure about now - the Reading Phillies were a thing and they'd send their players up. I remember watching Bruce Ruffin's ML debut...which I think he won (against my Cardinals).

A few weeks ago I saw a game in which 3-4 dudes were called up in the same game. I love it. That's what MLB is about.

My wife and I regularly go to the Corpus Christi Hooks games. AA affiliates of the Astros. Love minor league baseball.

The International League was the best, when I was a kid. Pawtucket Red Sox, Tidewater Tides, Toledo Mud Hens, Syracuse Chiefs....we share many of the same memories. Thanks for reminding me, brother.

Some do, but I can also see the value in having a team in some random location that doesn't have a professional affiliation. A team can build interest in their brand if they have a regional following of a minor league affiliate and then that affiliate sends players up to the majors.

Man... Talk about a quitting.. After watching the Mets since the trading deadline... I don't care if totally clean house this off-season...

They're only 2 games out of the 6th pick in the draft (which doesn't get pushed back 10 spots) so there's that.

I won't be watching anymore Mets games this year... I obviously hope teams I root for win, but if they are entertaining and lose? I'm ok with that.. As long as they try and are entertaining...

Right now? The Mets are not trying, nor are they entertaining...

So I'm counting down the days until the NFL... Had my 1st fantasy draft yesterday... Lol

It was good to see the Mets show some pride.
Polar Bear is awesome to watch on defense.
Verlander, Quintana, Senga, and the rest of the starters is a good start for ‘24.

Mullins for BAL made a great game-saving catch and game-winning HR at SEA.
He’s like a Twins Buxton that can’t stay healthy, and both will be in the playoffs.

The Rays are trending out of the playoffs with their pitching injuries.
Now they have have another Franco off-the-field problem.
And they cut a serviceable pitcher Chirinos who the Braves snatched up right away.
