I like Melania. I feel bad for her—I don’t think she ever wanted to be First Lady. Actually, the White House is a step down for her.

But speaking lots of languages in Europe is quite common. My mother was born in Norway, and speaks Norwegian, Swedish, English, German, and Italian. I also speak English, Norwegian, Swedish, and German. And a little French. Most Europeans are multilingual.

Why isn't English just the standard language? Why would anybody want or need to speak multiple languages?

Most Slovenians speak Hungarian, it is a common language for all the Balkans. Has been since well before the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She grew up speaking Hungarian and a half dozen other regional languages and dialects.
