I see it more as two entities both exercising their free speech, going at it with each other.
I dont know...(I mean that...I DONT know...) does Fox go after Media Matters? I know that 'media' doesnt matter to MM...Fox news is ALL that matters. They dont go after CNN, or ABC, or MSNBC. Which is really kinda stupid...Fox has its viewers...they do their advertising, and then MSNBC and MM and any NUMBER of assclowns on this website make it their business to promote and advertise MORE for them by attacking them 24/7. Its no wonder Fox news kills everyone else in viewership...half of them are morons that hate their guts so much they cant stop thinking about them.

I guess "going at it with each other" wasn't the right expression. My point is, MM is exercising their right to free speech the same way anyone else does, so I don't see it as a "war on free speech," unless MM is actively lobbying or pursuing legislation to regulate Fox or take it off the air.
I note your quote and point out that free speech does not mean, indicate, imply, nor guarantee anything approximating truth. Objective news reporting would be "truth." Perspectives, partisanship, sold to so and so, and any other spin should be openly and previously acknowledged, ergo the show would be labelled entertainment or a commercial.

Wouldnt you say that is their end game?
I dont think it matters...Fox has their supporters...and everyone else divides up their loyalties...and to me its all the same poisoned pill, which is why I dont watch TV news.
They attempt to destroy/discredit Fox through their own use of free speech/spin/propaganda, and that's completely their right. If they are actively pursuing legislation in order to get the government to censor or somehow control or limit Fox's speech, I would be against that.
I'm with you there brother. I only watch it occasionally, because sometimes images on a screen are more powerful than words on a page, and gives you a sense of what might be going on somewhere. I don't primarily rely on cable news for my information.
Im not suggesting they dont have the right to do what they do...just that I think its pretty comical to hold yourselves up as an unbiased defender of the media, and in doing so, expose yourselves to be far greater partisan hacks than Fox could ever be.
I pretty much rely on internet sources...read an AP article...read a linked reuters article, a few others if the story is important...somewhere in the middle is the 'truth'. I thought it was interesting yesterday that an article in the Jerusalem Post was an AP article with sources (and links) from Al Jazeera and the New York Times AND the Washington Post. Now that there is a wicked brew...

“Criticizing Fox News has nothing to do with criticizing the press,” Brock wrote in a planning memo. “Fox News is not a news organization. It is the de facto leader of the GOP, and it is long past time that it is treated as such by the media, elected officials and the public.”
