I read the story and overall, I would wait to say if this is a hate crime as such a crime is about the reason the act was done. However, I will say that these people are a-holes and a through investigation should be done. If this is in fact a hate crime, all of those people should go to jail.
Shouldn't there be an investigation by Justice to say for sure? I mean if it were a black resident, and twenty white guys, or better yet twenty "white hispanics" beat the guy into a near coma, with weapons, FBI would be swarming....No?

Justice is justice. I don't like how your trying to imply that the government cares more about white on black crime than black on white crime.
Edit: But yeah, there should be a through initial investigation and if it gets to the JD then cool.

As to "other posters?" 'Tis true. Sometimes the silence is deafening.

Well, now let's see these same posters out there defending Treyvon Martin come in this thread and show the same of Mr. Owens.
Think Eric Holder will dispatch the 'Hate Crimes Unit' to charge these 20 adults? Or even investigate it?

I know the racial tensions are very high around here (I live 20 miles from Sanford). I was not aware that they were that high all over the country.
Um... your own story says arrests are expected.
Well, I guess this case has no relation to the Martin case--people commited a crime and being arrested -- unlike what happened in the Martin case.
So why the idiotic comment?
Or do you just like posting stories where you can say -- "See, blacks act like animals." ??
Why not? Because J-Mac is exactly right?
actually they should get 10 years each for felonious assault-minimum
I think its probably attempted murder with a conspiracy charge (premeditation is obvious) so add another 10
use of weapons-add 5
and racial hate crime-another 5
30 years seems about right
Sharpton or Jessie showing up?
I was thinking Oxcy Rush or maybe Buchanan would be demonizing this, more their side of the street.
I suppose if Mobile had a history of suppressing the white man I'd agree more stink needs to be made, afterall we can't let people going around beating white folks for no good reason.
I think you would have to be a very simple soul to think there won't be some backlash after Trayvon. Not saying it is justified and not saying we know all that happened before the beating, odd to think there is no history to this, that it was the first time kids played in the street and not sure what the 'fussing' actually was.
But now would be a good time for the 'white' whiners to do as they said with the Trayvon case and wait for a few more facts before rending garments.
That ain't as much fun as kicking up a premature fuss and demanding equal time from the President.
The people who committed this crime are guilty of racism and attempted murder.....
No doubt arrests will be made shortly, and charges will soon follow.
and yet, how long did it take for there to be an arrest and charges against George Zimmerman?
exactly.
Uhh, Zimmerman was in the wrong and this mob was in the wrong. I am as liberal as they come and I am not seeing the point of the commentary in the OP.
The bulk of the rage surrounding the Martin/Zimmerman case, though, didn’t come from it being a racially motivated crime. Racially motivated crimes happen every day. The rage came from the AUTHORITIES’ perceived inaction and the belief that if the shooter had been black and the deceased were non-black then the police would have treated it differently.
