London to begin Knife control...I kid you not.

I somehow don't think they took them off a repairman going about his job, do you?

I thank god I don't live in America with a narcissistic idiot as President, an insanely expensive, and not very good, healthcare system, and little to no workers rights. I'll just be here paying 4 times less for better healthcare while enjoying my 25 days paid vacation leave knowing I can't be sacked without good cause. :2wave:

Let me say this again,

I don't care who they confiscated them from; it's ****ing idiotic to confiscate a pair of pliers from a law abiding citizen. What's next? #2 pencils?

LOL. If this doesn't convince the left then nothing will.
Convince the left of what?

If you are saying that people by nature are violent, and if guns are banned folks will still find a way. I agree with that. However, whether it be gun or knife control I support prudent measures to protect the public. I didn't like the statement by the mayor that said there was absolutely no excuses for carrying a knife. That's because I was given and taught to use a pocket knife as a young lad. But I think the mayor is correct that one should leave the Rambo knifes at home. That's in line with many U.S. jurisdictions.

I also wanted to say I'm from a class of liberals, and there are many of us, that support the individual right of gun ownership. I'm from the Eastern-Washington state. I grew up around firearms and own several, and I believe it my right. But many innocent people are dying on the streets and surely something must be done. As to gun regulation, full background checks at gun shows, and banning of bump stocks, both seem prudent, even if only stopgaps. Of course, a lot more is at play then gun laws. There just seems to be a lot of bad mojo going around lately, more so than I can remember in my time.

Yeah, nonsense of course because pliers can be used in an attack, ever had a set of long nose pliers rammed in your eye/face/body? I think it is not going to be very much fun. And that is not the real issue. The issue is that if there is no logical reason for someone in a certain situation runs around with a pair of pliers, you may find them to be confiscated.

It is not like they are confiscating a priceless artifact or anything from you. It is a pair of pliers, people should stop overreacting. If someone runs around a busy pub with a pair of pliers for no logical reason whatsoever, then expect them to be confiscated.

I used to have my diagonal cutters, knife, and pliers in my pockets after I got off work all the time. They were in a side pocket because I had to grab and use them all the time, and I didn't always remember to stow them at the end of the day. It would have sucked to go to a bar afterwards and have them confiscated as a weapon when there are so many other better weapons around in a pub. Like chairs, stools, bottles, mugs, pool cues, billiard balls. I could probably use the microphone cord on the karaoke machine to kill someone easier than I could use my tools.

I have lost a few things at airport and stadium check-ins before though. /shrug. The cost of a tool being ubiquitous for work to the point you forget you have it I suppose. /sigh

Do you support confiscating pencils and nail files? Should women's purses be searched for anything that can be used as a weapon? Do you condone that?

Priceless artifact? No, but it is my property. If they confiscate my $30 pair of pliers, that means that I'll have to spend another $30 to buy another pair.

You're supporting an idiotic law; face it.

Bans will work!!!

If you take a pair of pliers shopping, then you may well be intending to clip the security tags from expensive items before stealing them. There's a crime called "going equipped"

After murder rate passes NYC, London Mayor Sadiq Khan calls for sharper knife control

London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a crackdown on knives Sunday in response to the rising levels of violence in London, which recently surpassed New York City's homicide rate for the first time.

"No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife," Khan tweeted. "Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law."

There have been more than 50 homicides in London so far in 2018, and much of the violence is tied to gangs.

Guns are strictly regulated in the United Kingdom and the rising homicide rate in London is directly attributable to a rise in knife-related crimes, with stabbings claiming at least 31 lives to date in 2018. By contrast, New York — which has a population roughly the same size as London — has seen a steady decline in violent crime.

LOL

NYC has knife control

I can thank God I don't live in England. I can also say how stupid it is to confiscate a pair of lineman's pliers. :lamo

Here we have freedom and liberty. England? Eh, not so much.

We have less stupid for which we work hard.

And if you did not want your property confiscated, you should not have brought it into a certain situation like "going out on the town". As said, someone who goes walking through a nature reserve and has forgotten a pair of pliers in his coat will most likely not have to give up his property. But if you are in the city center, in a busy club and you get searched and have the object in your pants pocket ready to "use" then you will get it confiscated.

But again, it is the UK and if the people in the UK have problems with it, they can either use the courts or their parliament to change the rules.

I am supporting the freedom of the police to make the determination when something is acceptable to have when looking at the situation, and what is not.

In historical comparison, London murder rate goes above NYC for one single year and you start pointing fingers. Really? Just as NYC murder rates have lowered steadily over the years, so has London. The only difference is, when London bumps-up due to a definable reason, knifings (involved in other violent crimes, too), the government does something about it.

I've said for many years, London will be sporks-only. Then people will sharpen the edge of their sporks. Then Londoners will only be allowed to eat with their hands.

And for those many years, you've been wrong. For all those years, London has had a lower murder rate than NYC. You project an impracticable eventuality. The idea of "sporks" is cartoonish.

Not even a year, one single month. Last year New York's homicides were more than double that of London. Incidentally, New York was only the 67th most deadly US city last year.

That's why The United States is the greatest country in human history. We aren't subject to random confiscation of our property.

You're begging to be enslaved.

Why you have to ruin right wing idiocy? Fake nonsense like this is all they have, they can't argue against gun control on the merits

well given there is no evidence that laws that target honest gun owners actually decrease crime-we win that argument

I mean, what's next, cities setting up speed limits!

Christ almighty the lengths pro gun people with no actual argument will go to try and pretend they have a valid argument is completely ridiculous

why are you dishonestly comparing use restrictions (how fast you can drive a car on the public right of way) vs possession restrictions (gun control laws)

NO ONE opposes laws that prevent say the discharge of firearms in a crowded urban lot etc.

They are comparing two very safe cities. Gun control works

Let me know when criminals and terrorists start following these laws.

passing laws restrict honest people

punishing law breakers with prison incapacitates criminals

gun banners want to PASS lots of laws that criminalize currently legal behavior by gun owners while not enforcing laws that actually incapacitate felons with prison sentences
